I think I've decided on H/C. What do you think?
Thunder Racing GTP stage 2 heads
2.02 intake / 1.57 exhaust / dual springs with titanium retainers
TR Cam
224/224/.561/.561/114
Hardened pushrods
GM Gasket & Bolt Kit
ARE blueprinted oil pump
ASP pulleys
Stock Rockers
Stock Lifters
Stock Timing Chain
I already have the following:
SLP LT headers w/RT cats
HPP3
MAFT
160 T-stat
SLP underhood air induction
Cutout
3.73 gear
315/35/17 g-force tires
Lots of suspension goodies
What do you think? Pro Stock John likes it! Does this sound like a good streetable setup? Who's running this cam?
For those of you who want to know how I came to this decision - take a look at this lengthy yet informative post: https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...c&f=1&t=001752

I couldn't have made the decision without all the help I got on this board. Thanks everyone!
Now I need to work on Thunder Racing to give me a good price. Time for a GP!

I think you'd probably be happy with a setup from any of the well reputed vendors out there, but the GTP/TR cam setup sounds good.

As long as PSJ likes it...j/k. But seriously, it sounds like a good choice. [quote]I think you'd probably be happy with a setup from any of the well reputed vendors out there, but the GTP/TR cam setup sounds good. <hr></blockquote>I Agree!

Sounds like an awesome setup <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
I really don't think you can go wrong either way!
Good luck, can't wait to see some numbers... I think it was really cool how you researched and did your homework. You definately won't be disappointed!

Re: I think I've decided on H/C. What do you think?
Here's the possible ARE (Agostino Racing) setup. His prices are much better and from what I gather, his reputation is just as good.
ARE Stage 1 Heads (CNC ported - same as most S2 from other vendors)
2.02 intake / 1.57 exhaust / dual springs with titanium retainers
Custom Grind Lunati Cam
224/224/.561/.561/114
Hardened pushrods
GM Gasket & Bolt Kit
ARE blueprinted oil pump
ASP pulleys
Stock Rockers
Stock Lifters
Stock Timing Chain
I already have the following:
SLP LT headers w/RT cats
HPP3
MAFT
160 T-stat
SLP underhood air induction
Cutout
3.73 gear
315/35/17 g-force tires
Lots of suspension goodies

Those are decent heads, but I know for a fact the MMS stage 2 heads flow a lot better for the same price. <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

I think those ARE heads are gonna flow less than the GTP's man...but if you are on a tight budget I'd bet they'll be ok. If you want the ultimate street setup, go with the GTP's. If you want a bargain setup, go with those CNC'd heads. Hand ported heads are probably gonna flow more than CNC'd ones if done by the right place.

Well, Mark, I think you are in pretty good hands.
I currently have all Agostino Racing stuff. I trailered my car up to ARE last year. I am extremely happy with my setup.
I do have a lot of respect for ARE, MTI, TR, and MMS. I think all of these companies have done a lot of r&d into stuff.

I thought that all of ARE's heads were hand ported, not CNC'd. This is the first time I've ever heard CNC and ARE in the same sentence.
Am I just "out of the loop"?

Yes, Nick said they are now CNC'ing first, then following up with hand porting to finish them off. For a street car I think I can't go wrong by saving some money. I'll sacrifice a little flow for $$ since I'm not really focusing on competitive track activity and worrying about a tenth of a second. I just want to be king of the street - not the strip. <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">

Hey you! Don't confuse the guy... he narrowed down to the two he liked, don't make the decision even more difficult LOL

Re: I think I've decided on H/C. What do you think?
Well, after having what seemed to be a firm decision on going with TR, I've decided to go with Agostino instead. Thanks again to all who helped me be an educated consumer.
Nick is cool - 'nuff said. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
Thanks Nick. I'll call you in a couple days with an order whether Joe is in on the deal or not.
