How much of a difference am I going to notice in sound if I swap from Stock manifolds to headers.
Which headers will make the Least difference in sound, volume wise, short-,mid-, or long-tube headers?
Thanks guys!

1) Headers will make the engine louder.
2) Stock manifolds are double-walled, aftermarket stuff is single wall.
3) I think shorties will make the least amount of noise. But all longtubes will make more power.

Is there any way I can put headers on my car without them being a lot louder. I can deal with a little change in tone and volume, but not to drastic.
I really want longtubes, more specifically the Tuned, equal length SLP's, but I know those have to be really loud, and my girl says I can do anything that don't change the looks or sound of my car, so I'm going with heads and cam, maybe intake and headers if I can figure out how to keep her from noticing.
Thanks John!

Headers, 3" Y-pipe in to a 3 1/2" collector, 3 1/2" cutout, reducer, stock muffler.
That ought to do it.
Open the cut out at the track (or when the GF isn't around).

You could just tell her.. "it's my car, I'll do what I want" but I have a girlfriend.. and I know how that goes..
The first time I heard PSJ's 98 SS with longtubes I thought it sounded like a Winston Cup car. Very mean sounding. For a quiet sound, you could do the SLP dual-dual catback.

I would love to see the look on my girlfriend's face if she told me that I couldn't do anything to change the looks or sound of my car as she was walking home.

SLP headers, SLP cats and dual/dual would not be much louder than stock but maybe deeper. My answer was maybe a bit too technical. You will hear more valvetrain noise.
I just installed the Mac headers with ORY.Already had the SLP dual dual catback, which is one of the quietest catbacks out there. After the Macs went in I don't notice any difference at idle but accelerating is MUCH louder. Not loud by many peoples standards, but MUCH louder than with the stock manifolds.I like it
