Default Help my baby wont start

Well i did the heads and cam and headers got it all back togther. So i go to start it and she fires right up for about 3-5 seconds and then nothing. The car wants to turn over but it cant. Checked the plugs and there is spark, have fuel also. Would it be the timing is off or the valves werent adjusted just right. thanks

You mean it turns over but won't fire or won't turn over at all?

Any codes? Is it even making an attempt at firing? I'm guessing yes since you stated you have spark and fuel. What exactly have you done in the troubleshooting process?

Blew a fuel pump fuse?

Out of gas?

You don't need to adjust the valves.

What length pushrods...

the fuse is good, there is almost a full tank, and the pushrods are the stock length since i didnt have much taken off the heads. I am thinking that it is something with the valves not being right. After installing a cam how did you guys adjust the rockers, along with the valves? I am being told so many things and its all been different so now i have now idea.

Did the same exact thing for me. Turn the idle screw up a half turn and try it!!! Did for me. But I had programming as well which may affect that since my idle was set up to the 800 rpm mark.

If it runs for a few seconds and then quits it is almost certainly fuel.

So you think that its fuel even though it wont turn over. It did start for like 3-5 seconds and then died. It starts to turn but just cannt start. Would that still be a fuel problem even though it wont start at all even for a few seconds now.

are you saying it starts to roll over but then locks? If so you're hurting, you either made valve to piston contact, or something fell into one of the chambers and is keeping the motor from spinning.

this may sound kinda stupid and obvious, but have you checked the battery, these crappy ac delco batteries are notorious for going dead suddenly.

Yeah, if you have spark and fuel (and obviously air) you'd be ok. But if the motor is just turning over and getting no firing at all, then you're missing something. Are you positive you're getting fuel and spark? Is it attempting to fire but just won't start?

check your plugs and see if they are fouled. I had a problem with a VAC leak and 25% LTRIMS which flooded my plugs. Changed plugs and VIOLA problem solved. If you are getting fuel spraying from the injectors and spark from the wires it HAS to be the plugs.
Cheers,
Chris

Believe it or not, not enough camshaft end play
broke the first chain Comp-cams snout where
gear mounts 20/1000's long. When they say
4-10/1000's clearance they mean it. <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">
He's up and running Still got some stuff
to do <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> I'm sure he'll show to do his
own little <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" /> <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Not sure about the new manuals But with cam gear
installed and retainer in place Dial indicator
off face of gaer should show 4-10/1000's play
Easier to gat reading by leaving chain laying
on crank In& out should show somewhere in those
#'s That's ideal way other option is pull forward
on gear and check with feeler gauge With proper clearance is IMPORTANT <img src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
