I have been rebuilding my stock heads now that the Darts are on the car. I have them disassembled and today was getting ready to clean the valves when I found this on every valve, but the worst are the exhaust valves. Anyone seen this happen before? Looks like the valve lock bit right into the valve stem material.
stock exhaust valves have a hardened tip welded on top of them. The line between the hardened tip and valve stem is normal..
I have a brand new set of stock valves and they all look like this..

Yes, I don't see this on the intake valves at all. There is like a groove that goes all the way around the valve, which just happens to line up with the top of the lock.

Thanks for the info, I thought it was odd that only the exhaust since a float issue would tend to affect the heavier intake valve first. And all the exhausts are the same and all the intakes don't have this.
Wonder if anyone ever had this joint let go?
