ONLY 10 kits for 10 more days from 1/21/02
So, I can let 10 more kits, first come first serve, out the door until end of January (1/31/02)

Is that extension for the BLOWOUT PRICE: $259.95 or Special Price: $279.96?

I have no idea what it does, but just from the looks it seems it may only benifit a ram air type hood? I have a T/A (no r/a hood) and luckily I can benifit from upper air because I cut out the metal box on the hood latch so it opened up my little nostrils....

It dosent block any more air than the lower airbox assembly did.. Im toying with the idea of having 3 louvers punched in the metal just below the filter.. this would let more of the radiator directed air up to the filter location and the louver would made it harder for water to get on the filter (as opposed to holes).. Personally i feel there is plenty of air up there as it is.. I will keep everyone posted as testing progresses
A guy in our local club ran his stock Z28 (FIPK, magnaflo catback and ripper shifter the ONLY mods) to a 12.81 @ 113.4mph so i dont see it only working for a ram air car..

The FIPK definitely looks good! Haven't decided on what to do just yet, but need an assist please.
Has anybody been able to tell the performance difference between the FIPK and the Volant? They are priced about the same.
The Volant is a self-contained open-ended box seals up against the ram air intake (complete w/rubber weatherstrip).
Thanks

I dont know why i didnt like the Volant.. I just didnt.. what would be cool would be to fab up the FTRA to the lower section of the Volant and they you would get a very good ram air effect.. Not too many people running Volants for some reason..
Im sure the FTRA could be adapted to work with the FIPK but since nothing is sealed there would be no ram air effect.. you would get PLENTY of fresh air though. I still think there is plenty of fresh air in that part of the car.. not only is there radiator overflow air but my wings west grill scoops up quite a bit from the front of the car not to mention the air pushed in through the SS scoop.. I will auto tap it to see what inlet (at the MAF air temp is but a friend has the same set up and its always VERY close to the ambient outside air temp.

I'd love to see some dyno comparisons of the K&N FIPK and any of the lids w/ a K&N filter on a stock LS1, heads/cam LS1, and 422 LS1. That would be really nice to see.
It's a very clean setup. I'm just curious as to how it flows in comparison to a lid.

Track testing on Saturday and Dyno testing on 2/16
Oh.. it flows.. sounds like a wind tunnel when you start it up -- the question will be how it flows with the hood down and how the non-sealed design effects inlet air temp. Vettes have been running conical K&N type filters for some time with good results..

The C5 application hangs over the front edge and cuts into the plastic radiator shroud so the air is sucked from about halfway down the radiator. By cutting into the radiator shroud, it sucks air from in front of the radaiator. It apparently makes 21rwhp according to Crank & Chrome. Interestingly, K&N claim 20bhp gain for the C5 but a lot less (around 15) for the Camaro so if the 22bhp above is accurate, it's very encouraging. I understood that most lids only gained 10bhp and I've never seen anybody with figures to suggest it's better than that. I seem to recall many years ago when the LS1 came out that they dynoed a Granatelli lid and MAF which gave a 10bhp increase.

FIPK vs. MTI Lid and Clean K&N Filter
Before I installed my FIPK a couple of months ago, I was beating my head against a wall of high 8.4's, with a best of an 8.47, in the 1/8th, obviously. After installing the FIPK, I ran a best of 8.39, with about 1 mph increase.
I know that had to be what it was because the weather, if anything, was worse, and the track was the same, same tires, same everything.
So nearly .1 and 1mph in the 1/8th.
Hope I've helped somebody decide to buy one, I get nothing but compliments on mine!!!

And thats in the 1/8 mile.. I bet the gain would be more if it had been 1/4 mile..

Let us know how everything goes with the kit. It is a nice piece. I'm sure if you opened up the radiator support below the filter you would benefit from the traditional LS1 free mods.
On a side note, the $259 Blowout ends on the 31st of Jan. and we only have a few of the units from the 10 offered left.
