Default Rattling noise IN my exhaust (Help)

So this just started the other day. I hear this rattling noise coming from underneath my car. So I figure it's probably the bolts for my cutout or maybe some
other part of my exhaust...well it wasn't. All bolts seemed tight. So I decided while the car was up on jack stands, I would start it and see if I could
pin-point the location of the noise. I could not determine the exact location of the noise, but it seemed to be the most loud in my y-pipe on the passenger
side.

It almost sounds like there is a piece of metal inside that won't find its way out.

Any Ideas?

Mark

One of your catalytic converters is probably toast. When I took mine off to gut them this summer, they sounded like the had gravel inside them.

Edit: Wanted to add, a leak will sometimes sound like a rattle, or almost like rustling paper.

Have you capped the cutout? Did it still sound like there was metal banging? I did a custom cutout cap that has a 1.5 inch hole in it and it got rid of my noise. Plus it sounds good!!!

Yes, I have the cutout capped all the time. I did uncap it to see if anything would fall out (or blow out). The rattle was still there.

Hey what’s up....had to register just to let you know what I found out when I had the same problem. For like 3 months I could hear this noise that sounded like my muffler was loose or something. I tested it out with a tech in the car and we found out it seem to do it more on a left turn then a right turn. He thought it might be a wheel bearing at first. After a few trips to the dealer I was told that is was not the exhaust or the wheel bearing but the rear axle. He said that after all the guys in the shop had poured over the car trying to figure it out they called GM. GM told them "That is normal noise for a performance rear axle of this type." Its BS I know but that’s all I could get out of them. I had them put it on the slip so if its causes me any problems down the road (now that my warranty is over) I can say “HEY…YOU SAID NORMAL NOISE!!” …lol. Hope this helps man.

edit: forgot my sig

Nope, I am afraid that is not the case here. I hear the noise not only when I am driving, but also when I have the car sitting on jack stands in the garage.

Thanks though, and keep the ideas coming.

Got it fixed! We were way off. It turns out I cracked one of the welds on my y-pipe.

Thanks y'all!
