Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think if you simply unplug the sensors, you'll see a constant 4* or so of knock retard.

I WANT 4 degrees of KR...I have 24 degrees of timing running 7psi....I want to try 10 psi and would feel better with only 20 deg of timing and 100 octane. So....

Ahh, well they're located under the intake manifold, join the wiring harness behind the motor I guess? They look like 2 black circles.

I wonder if you could put a switch inline, so you could switch them on and off.

can i just clip one of the wires from either knock sensor at the pcm and get a standard -4 deg retard? If so I'll just use a switch to turn it on and off.

If the PCM doesn't see the knock sensors, you get a constant 4 degrees of retard, giving 24 degrees advance timing instead of 28. If your PCM is seeing knock retard now that is giving you the 24 degrees, unplugging them will do nothing for you(as the PCM works off the WOT timing tables). If your PCM is reworked and 24 degrees is the new WOT advance you get, I am very curious as to what happens when you unplug your knock sensors.

As far as unplugging them, it is just that. Unplug them. The wire harness runs under the intake manifold to the back of the motor. It will take some feeling around, but you will find it. There is a plug back there that connects the short under manifold wiring to the main harness right there. Just unplug it. Don't cut any wires and such....Be sure though, as the cam position sensor and the MAP sensor plugs are also back there.

Todd is correct, unplugging the K-sensors makes the PCM default to -4 degrees knock retard at all times. The only way to get rid of this is to delete the SES with AutoTap, it will not return to normal by simply plugging back in the K-sensors. So, an off/on switch is of no use here.

Knock-Out Box details can be found on the link at the bottom of my signature.

The info so far is about it.

You can unplug then at the back of thge driver side valve cover. Connector is clipped to the bracket just at the end of the fuel rail.

Like black 98 said, if you see full timing and no KR, then you'll drop 4°. If your seeing 4 KR now, you won't get any more than that at WOT.

Thanks for that info harlan. Ok I unplugged the harness behind the drivers side fuel rail...had 2 wires light/dk blue. Now my timing at idle is still the same...Atap shows no -4 kr and no SES light was set...what gives? Do I have to do something special to know if this is working right? Like maybe go wot down the road? Too much traffic for now to do that

It will show -4 KR immediately when you go WOT. The SES will set, you should get two identical codes, one for each sensor.

It will lose more than 4 deg. There is more than one timing map that is referenced. If it is a stock program, I'd guess it would be about 16 deg timing.

Apparently something is screwy. I tested it..got no SES light but it did set a code for both sensors. My timing retarded like 22 degrees to ZERO! So I guess that idea is out. This is with an Ed wright PCm so maybe its something he has done
