Default ATTN: Nine Ball 116 octane race fuel/ KR?

I was looking over your info for the Knockout Box. I may need one.
I have access to 116 octane race gas @ $7.50 a gallon. Can I mix this with 93 octane? How many gallons should I buy and how to mix?
I'm not happy with only 370 HP with the H/C and need to get rid of the KR. Just want to make sure it's false first.

Thanks.

116 Octane is most likely leaded fuel, so don't use it. You could ruin your O2 sensors. You need 103-104 unleaded fuel to test your car out.

PBZ, AFAIK anything over 93 in FL you'll have to get at the track or a distributor. A guy posted on ls1.com once all the locations in Fl for, I think, Union 76 race gas, but I didn't keep the info. How far are you from Moroso? (I haven't been down that way in years).

Thanks. I'm only about 15 miles from Moroso! How much do I need to buy?

Both me and a friend of mine have used leaded gas and had different outcomes. He picked up .6 in the quarter and added about 6-7mph more then he did while running on pump gas. Once the fuel is in your system, the car likes it, but when you run out, your car starts to act like a crack-***** who hasnt had her high in a week. If you have full exhaust, and higher compression, your car is more to like the gas then one with cats. Its not cheap either, costed me right around $30 a gallon.

.6 in the 1/4 and 6-7mph?

What was he running? 20:1 compression?

PBZ, I would just get to the pump with maybe 1/4 tank of 92-93 octane and fill up with the 104 if available, that should be enough to bump up the average a couple of points. All the higher octane is good for is to see if it will eliminate knock. You haven't had the H/C very long, right? Probably no need to try the top end cleaner in that case.

I would take the advice of getting to the track with a 1/4 or less. Rather than fill up, I would buy about 4 gallons. Around here, the gas is $4 gallon or some similar high price. If you're still showing the same KR on 50% 104 octane gas, it is false knock.

The track opens back up for racing Feb. 13th. I'll just wait till then. I can get a few runs in at the same time. I ran the A-Tap today just cruising around to check the LTrims and it's running a little rich with 0 KR. Does KR only occur at WOT?
Also, I ordered a MAFT from Thunder and MAF ends from Preddy at Fast Toys. That way, if the ends lean it out too much, I can adjust accordingly with the MAFT.

Crazyquik,
Thanks for that info. I looked and the closest place seems to be about 450 to 500 miles away, in Georgia.

That's probably the nearest distribution center. Call 'em to find out the nearest dealer. I have a VP Racing Fuels dealer right here is my little home town of ~17,000 people but it's not listed on BP's website.

old guy here. someone said that they are paying 30 bucks a gallon for race fuel? I say horsepuckey. I date back to the 60's era race cars and used to go to the local airport and top off my 69 camaro big block with aviation fuel, which usually averaged 106\108 octane. (which was calculated differently than todays octane formula) back then, 100 or 102 octane was tops at the pump on the street. so what gives? don't the boys at the airport take care of the street racers anymore? btw, then, a gallon of 101 octane gas cost probably 45 cents, and aviation fuel run about 60 cents. but the octane couldn't be touched on the streets at that time. thought you might be interested......

palm beach z, I think moroso sells 100 unleaded race gas only (114,117 etc is leaded of course). I'm pretty sure there is a place in west palm that sells cam2 and sunoco race gas, can't find a damn issue of reaction times but I've seen the ad a hundred times! Might want to check that avenue out!

Good luck!

Dragon, thanks, I'll head down that way next weekend.

When my main hobby was fishing, it wasn't nearly as expensive as the Camaro. It wasn't as much fun either!

This is one of my little tricks dude

I run VP's high-octane during races, then I just use Duroplex (I think that's the brand's name) Octane Boost during the week. I like the boost because I get NO PINGING OR ERRATIC IDLE.

I know a lot of people are gonna knock the Oct. Boost, but I know from experience that the car drives smoother with it; and it costs just 3 bucks

Don't even let me start about the power increase with the VP

The prices at VP are cheaper than Moroso too

Enjoy the expensive AND FUN Hobby!!
