Default Another Delco battery hits the dirt

2 years, 48,000 miles. The battery itself was still holding a good charge, but it stranded me for the last time 'cause of leaking onto the pos terminal. I got by for a while by replacing the terminal bolt, but today I had enough and put an Interstate battery in. I didn't want to have to replace the wiring because of extensive corrosion.Incidentally, my '96 Camaro battery lasted about the same amount of miles/less time.
My wifes' FORD truck battery has lasted for over 4 years.

They are not the best batteries. Mine is going on three years however still strong. The wife's Toyota battery lasted 1.5 years.

Delphi Automotive, who makes these batteries for GM, is well aware of the leakage problem. I toured their Southern California plant in 1999. At that time they acknowledged the problem and showed me some of the steps they were taking to rectify things. I'm no longer affiliated with them, but hopefully by now they've got things worked out. After all, it's only been 32 years since GM started to use side post batteries. LOL

Mine has been leaking for a while now. The positive terminal got corroded and the car wouldn't crank at first. Cleaned that off and no problems yet. I gotta get that thing replaced.

The Delco in my C5 was a leaker too. I replaced it with a Optima Red top. Good luck

If the positive cable corrodes enough down in the insulation, it will shorten the life of the cable. Better to replace the batt and clean the cable good. That liquid battery cleaner seems to work well for attacking the cable corrosion.

Actually had an A/C Delco Battery last 5 1/2 years in my RS, then the cheap alternator died and killed the battery.

I just replaced my Delco battery a couple of days ago due to it leaking at the positive terminal also. The battery was only 18 months old too.

I've always had good luck with AC Delco batteries too. My 97 GTP (which was built August 96 actually) was still on it's original battery when I traded it last October (so it was over five years old) The alternator even crapped out and the battery was still strong.

My battery died on me last week! but fortunately my dad was passing by when it went out and I snagged 1 of his batteries from his truck(a 92 chevy dually with dual batteries)
I didnt have any problems with my battery leaking but it suprised it lasted me almost 3 years and for 2 years I had 2 JL audio 15's with a 1200 watt amp and it didnt go then!!!! But I guess its just my twisted luck!!

And another one bites the dust. Damm battery puked acid out the positive post, down my cable and all over my k-member. Think I caught it in time and cleaned it all up. Area under the battery tray will need to be repainted. Have to replace positive harness though. Talked to the dealer, and it appears they are still having this problem, to this day.

You would think AC Delco would get it right after all these years. Looks like I am going for a Red Top Optima, if it will fit.

Another thread from the dead.......Just beware if you are still using your AC Delco

Mine leaked out at about 5K miles. Ruined the paint around the battery area.

The battery in my 1997 Ram-Air puked acid out of it positive terminal after 2 1/2 years.

Now have an 2002 hawk, the alt died 2 weeks ago, stranding me, but the battery is okay, for now.

I'm planning on replacing it with a Red top also.

Being how the optima is a top mounted terminal battery, will the factory cables reach? and attach normally??
