Re: egr mod????
2001 uses the ls6 intake stock, there are no provisions for the egr on them. it can be installed with a little custom fab work tho.
the egr mod you speak of is simple and is designed to remove the obstruction from the intake air path. remove the tube from the intake, carfully watching that you dont lose that round gasket in the hole, and you will see..
2 inches of steel hanging down into the path of the incoming air. trim that back..goodluck
you can remove the egr all together but would have a constant ses light btw

Re: egr mod????
yes but if i were to remove the egr tube all together would i notice more of a gain in horsepower, because i have been told that what the egr does is recycle exhaust into your intake for better gas mileage?

Re: egr mod????
EGR= Lower cyl temps, so they can run higher timing, to reduce tail pipe nastiesand pinging/detonation. also it takes up a small percentage of cyl volume, i.e better fuel mileage. (less gas in cyl.)Dam unleaded gas

Re: egr mod????
The SES light is for THE CATS mostly! Tail pipe crap. the manufacters have to replace if they fail. It cost the money to do this! Feds said do it. SSSooo they have intergrated this in the SES light. Almost all 1st/2nd trip light codes are because it COULD HURT THE CATS! IT'S monitored Closely! that's why it will come on when MODS effect the CATS. MODS can/will effect preformance, effect CATS;. Dealers don't like this. They have so much money allowed to them to take care of warrenty. What's left over is their Xmas bounis! i.e IT"S NOT UNDER WARRENTEE!

On the cars without the EGR, the camshaft profile is different so that it provides the actual EGR function. One of our cam experts on here can explain it better than I can though, so I won't go into detail on how it works, but it does. So it's not like the 01-02 cars don't have an EGR type of system.
