Good luck.

Can you answer the question that the other guys asked. Has Mike Norris done any 382 all-bores? I think I was told by someone a few months ago that Mike Norris only does the assembly, all the machine work gets sent out.

Do you know?

QUICKEN:

Because of your goals, I would seriously consider a stroker engine. You'll get more power in the rpm ranges you'll be using with a street cam. Strokers are better for low-mid range torque, while big bores are better suited to mid-high rpms. If you can afford it, do both. I'll tell you one thing, I was DAMN impressed with MMS's 421SD engine. I almost couldn't believe the pull that thing had on the freeway. And it's a hog. I don't know the cam specs on that engine, but it almost sounded stock. And correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was a large cam even 229 or 232 or so. Remember that stroker/big bore motors can get away with more cam and still be very streetable. In my opinion, you're better off to get the engine you want, one that is proven, from a reputable shop.

Oh and one more thing,

My heads/cam car is almost uncontrollable on street tires. I don't know why you would want so much power unless you're going to run slicks on the street.

I hope I didn't make your decision any harder. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

The MMS421SD was my first choice back in February when I started all my research. I just can't take the chance of a breakdown and then having to deal with a repair. I would have to ship my car away for 3 weeks. FL to CAL, it doesn't get much further than that. I would have no problem with it if it were just a H/C kit, but an entire motor scares me.
I will ask Norris Motorsports about a stroker tomorrow, maybe it will be worth it.

Nine Ball,

Will the all-bore or the stroker (422) idle better?

What's the difference in a 382 all-bore and the MMS 388, which is bored and stroked a little?

Thanks

Idle characteristics are mostly dependent on cam selection. You can have a more powerful motor that idles like stock if you go with more displacement.

My old 346ci with a T1 loped hard
My 382ci with the same T1 sounded stock and made 45 more rwhp
A built 422ci with a T1 would make about 30 more rwhp and idle better than stock.

Get the idea?

Its because the cam gets proportionally "smaller" as the motor size increases.

MTI all-bore 382ci and MMS all-bore 388ci are just different bore sizes. MTI uses a 4.10" diameter and I believe MMS uses a 4.125". ARE makes all-bore 393ci setups that have an offset ground stock crank (cheap stroker) to get a little more cubes.

Gary,

Yes, he does. He seems to have a great rep. and he is building a few strokers as we speak, turbo LS1's and all-bore's. I think I'm going to go with the 382 all-bore or something Mike mentioned, a 402.
