y pipes???
i was wondering how much rear wheel horsepower a y pipe would add?? i have a 98 ws6 with borla (open) how much louder will it be? i dont have the money for headers and high flow cats or off roads but will just adding a y pipe now make a difference? thanks!
i really need to know because otherwise i will just buy the package deal when i have the money, the package deal is slp long tubes, off road pipe or you can get high flow cats, and intallation kit. the deal with the off road pipes is 1000 and the deal with the high flow cats is 1300. i need to know what to do because what if i have to take my car in for emissions testing, because i really want to spend less and get more performance while doing so. thanks!

Maybe a handful? No more than 5rwhp, probably more like 2-3 <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
Exhaust note is a lil cleaner, but not any louder or anything.
For ~200 for the SLP/Borla/whatever, it's not worth it. I have the SLP one and it hangs way low too. I was never planning on getting headers at the time though...live and learn.
Don't even think about getting the OR version of the SLPs is you have to pass emissions.

Replacing the y-pipe is only going to show a real gain once the y-pipe becomes the restriction in the exhaust system. In addition, people have not been (in general, with some exception) showing much if any gain from replacing the y-pipe on stock cubed cars unless it has a lot of mods (read heads and big cam) along with an otherwise upgraded exhaust system.
On the bigger cubed motors - 383/409/422 etc., it is a whole different story.

thanks for your input i think i am gonna just go with a y-pipe because i do have borla and it is a restrictor (the stock y-pipe that is). but who makes the best y-pipes??? for the best price, i want to get ypipes with offroad pipes and the O2 sensors, what is the best, how big are the y pipes i'd like 3 inch pipes? thanks
I got a custom Y pipe for my MAC headers at Mufflex Mufflers. Mufflex-performance.com
They made it so that I could swap out Carsound 3" cats with Off Road Pipes in a matter of minutes. They welded in flanges and made if very easy to swap out the cats or ORPs for racing.
That way I can pass emmissions, as well as get some more power from the ORPs at the track.
