I'm sorry to read of your troubles. I know that Nick and Wade at ARE really care about their products and serfices. If it's any consolation one of the other super early solid roller cars (Not ARE or MTI) broke thru the head like you did. Sometimes it's hard to be on the leading edge of performance.

No offense, but if you reversed the hoses that one time you never know if something else might have snuck past you guys. Here in chitown the first heads/cam we did in a buddy's car was great except that one head leaked. We had to redo that side.

Shiny side up!

No offense taken But the top side of the engine has been off, including the cam and front seals twice now since then, and MTI assured me that no damage had been done. I'm aware now that many LS6 solid cars broke through the intake ports. I was just never told about it until I had to take the heads off again.
Its pretty funny... The heads have been on and off this car so many times that the threads in the block were beginning to get angry. We ended up studding the block to keep from pulling the threads out. :/

I'd also like to point out that the one time Visc screwed up the hoses was the one time I wasn't helping.

As for something else slipping past....like what? After 4-5 times you can do a head swap half asleep...there aren't really any gotchas to watch out for. Clean the bolt holes and gasket surface, and bolt em down. DONE.

I just talked with Jayson on the phone, he said he was tuning some cars. I wonder which cars he is tuning?

Yeah.... he took care of the general tuning this afternoon. Im not sure what the progress was. They are going to drive it around a bit over the weekend to make sure it will stay together, and then on Monday put it back on the dyno and drop the Y pipe to see what open header power looks like. I *really* suspect the exhaust path is where the power is being lost compared to some of the big HP cars. I guess Im just kinda confused why, even with 4.10s, I can just get above 400 rwhp, (through the exhaust) while other folks are running 430. I guess I wont be so picky if the car just runs....

Visceral,

Don't worry man, they will take care of you. I know how it feels to have to wait an eternity for your car while it is getting worked on.

Some of my parts were backordered over the Christmas holiday and it took 5 weeks of waiting to get my car back. I am finally going to Cartek this weekend to get the last little tweaks done to grab a few more HP and get my line lock setup.

You will be really happy with your car. And don't compare your RWHP to others RWHP, because you have a different setup then they do. People have different header combos, different underdrive pulleys, different injectors, cams, port jobs on the heads, etc.

If you break 400 RWHP on your car it will be very fast and you will love it. The feeling of being able to smoke your tires at will in 3rd gear is fun

Good luck with your setup, and I hope your car is back to you in no time.

Dan

Chris, did you drive your car down & fly back home? How do you plan to pick it up?

Some good news!

MTI put in new gas and a new 02 sensor and the car picked up 25 hp! hehehehe

That car has been sitting f*&^ed up for so long the gas went bad. Jayson is putting the thing on the dyno and starting up the LS1Edit process now. So I have no doubt she will be well over 400 in just a few hours. The 4.10s for some reason seemed to cost this car about 16 hp. Oh well. The car was also not getting anywhere near full timing. So success seems only a few hours away!

<cartman>HEY!</cartman>

True though. I should put jmX's time in my calculations up there. I think he bills at $5.25 per hour. There were at least 20 days of his help after he woke up at 7pm, showered and had dinner and then helped me until 4 am. That Mufflex 4" is kinda wrong to start at 4am though in Austin Suburbia. Im sure they're glad Im gone.

I saw them dynoing the car today while I was there. It spun up the rollers pretty quickly. I think you will be happy.

Yeah - your car sounded pretty bad a$$ and really good. I can't remember how it sounded at idle, but it was screaming on the rollers. I think you are going to love it. And hopefully this is the end of your heads saga.

When they were dynoing it, there were a bunch of people in the MTI lobby. Everyone stopped to watch it.

When I gave the car to MTI, I lived in Austin, TX (yeah...that long ago).
Next week I'm having it shipped from there to LG in Dallas using Travis Alford...He's an awesome car shipper for within Texas. LG is installing the CM 6 point and some new tubular A-arms. Then Im going to have it shipped from there up here. I dont trust the car to make it all the way up here without dropping a valve at *this* point, so Im gonna pay the 1000-1400 to get it shipped up here in a truck. Otherwise I would have had jmX drive it up on his way to pickup his new C5 (currently in my garage) and drive it back down to Austin. But I dont want Jon to get trapped in the middle of Nevada with a crunched engine.

Once it gets up here, I'll drive it around cautiously while I get things set up a little more for road racing this year. PIR is literally 1/2 a mile away, 1.5 miles if you drive, since you have to cross the Columbia river. The first long drive will be up to SIR for the car :-)

And yeah... it does spin the rollers up quick...but thats mostly because of the 4.10s. 4.10s in a 410 hp car spins up the rollers like a 422 with 3.42s *cough*luckybastard*cough* ;-)
Im SO jealous you got to see my car run! Did it sound good? How did it idle? Did it really wail when it was WOT? I think Ive forgotten what that car looks and sounds like
