Default Cam Install Progress & Oil pan ?

I started like at 10am, got everything apart and the new cam is in . I had some trouble with the crank pulley but finally got it off.

We stopped like at 4:30pm cus we can't get the oil pan to lower. I loosened 5 10mm bolts on each side of the pan and another 2 bolts near the end of the pan that face up. I try to pry it loose but it only goes down very little and then goes back up. Are there more bolts? Am I supposed to remove the bolts that go through the tranny and oil pan in the back?

btw, am I supposed to oil the pushrods before they go in? Thanks.

don't know for sure but I think there is 2 bolts in the back of the oilpan. sounds like you don't have them out. Pushrods, well, I just stuck them in and called it a day.

New pushrods i'm assuming? Oiling them up can't hurt, but....

I'd just blow them out, make sure there's nothing blocking the passage way and stick em in.

If you're reusing your stockers, "don't know why you are" i'd roll them on a smooth level surface to check for straightness. Then blow them out and stick em in.

I'm assuming he's changing the oil pump.

I have to loosen it to remove the oil pump, so that I can swap the Timing chain. I'm putting an LS2 timing chain, but keeping the stock pump.

Did it last night, you have two more bolts to go, on the side of the oil pan up a little. I loosened all mine couldnt get the oil pan to come down, so i just tried it with it still on their and got the pump and chain off. It just takes patience getting that bolt of the pickup tube. Make sure you have a way to catch it too. I tied some fishing line around it.

These two? I guess I'll loosen them up and see if it works.

I'll see if I can get it down again right now, if not I will try with it up.

How long is the pickup tube bolt? So I can know when to tie something around it. Oh and I went with a G5x3 114.

The pickup tube bolt is about an inch long. I just tied a slipknot and tightened it up on it. I also stuck a pen magnet on it when it got real loose just in case put the fishin line worked.

Would I be ok if I used the existing gaskets for my cam swap? I ordered from texas speed and the cam install kit was on backorder, so I'm thinking about canceling the cam install kit. I already got everything done except the springs. These gaskets look in good shape, and I heard since there the o-ring type you can reuse.. kinda like the intake manifold.

If all else I can try like this and then If It leaks or I get those gaskets in I can put in those gaskets.. Atleast I wouldn't have to remove the radiator..

Haha, we dropped that pickup tube bolt in the pan like 5 times before we tried fishing line. Luckily it just sat there on the flat part of the pan everytime instead of rolling back though.

Good call to check in here for advice before forcing things or taking shortcuts, I wish more people would do that - there'd be a lot less "I broke it, now what do I do" posts.

The gaskets should be OK to re-use 9 out of 10 times, but not the front seal - be sure to change that and center the cover following the guidelines on LS1howto.
