Default '02 OE Thermostat Rating

I recently replaced my stock thermostat with a 180* unit from Hypertech. I've heard so much conflicting info regarding the rating of this part from the factory (195*, 185*, 180*, etc.). When I looked over the OE part after removing it from the block, I saw the following stamped on it: 86/100*C. This corresponds to 186/212*F. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I am thoroughly confused.

I had read that before, but since I couldn't find any mention of it in my 2002 owner's manual, I figured why not. It takes longer to heat up now (heat up to when the fans kick on) when sitting still, although I can't say if this is from the thermotat or the water wetter.

My 02 seems to take longer to warm up than my 01. I was just thinking that maybe the temp sensor was working better in the 02. Well now to wait and find out about the thermostat.

It doesn't really take any longer to warm up to operating temp, just to heat up to when the fans turn on (215*, so I'm so told). In other words, it comes up quickly untill the t'stat opens and then will slowly (more slowly than with the OE t'stat) heat up to fan switch temp, if left sitting still.

Question for you: Does you temp gauge sit just under the 210 mark in normal cruising. I mean with the needle sitting just to the left of 210 but without touching it at all?

for me and a 01 I run just below 210 touching
210 is the signal for me to turn on the fans
manually. This summer on a trip from houston
to dallas I had high speed pinging.. people
told me I had a heat soak problem. This summer
ill have the thermostat come on earlier.
I have a digital temp guage coming and then
Ill do the thermostat mod too. Then ill be
able to tell what is going on with the temp.
Summers in North Tx are hot.. traffic is bad
most of the time in dallas

We just did the thermostat mod on a 2002 WS6 when installing a cam.
It now maintains 180 degrees after adding a spacer made by cutting a 3 thread section of a #12 bolt (with the low speed fan running). It still went up to 210 or so before the fan turns on by the computer.

To fix the problem, we added an adjustable electric fan switch ($27 at Pep Boys) grounded the one wire and hooked the other wire from the switch to the small green wire connected to the bottom of the fan relay closest to the engine.

Now we can adjust the fan to turn on at any temperature to maintain thermostat temp. The computer will still turn on the 2nd fan as usual for A/C or if the engine gets too warm.

My guess would be that the original was a 195 degree unit.

GOAT, I'm interested in this switch. You say it is adjustable, meaning not a manual one like the SLP? I was going to drop the cash for an HPP3, but if I don't have to I won't. I don't want to do the manual switch for several reasons. Mainly b/c I like the automated operation of the stock setup. Please send more details on this fan switch setup and install. TIA.
