Default best flowing exhaust? true duals or y-pipe and catback?

I think that my 4" Mufflex is part of the problem why I am down in power. I am having cutouts put on it but I rarely go to the track and I want max performance on the street at all times.
If the cutouts show substantial gains I want to go with the best possible setup for the street. I will not run open cutouts on the street or I would have kept my loudmouth on. Anybody have dyno proven performance or track improvements.

thanks,
Ray

I would guess it is the tuning or the timing tricker causing your problems not the Mufflex. Any other changes to the car?
Cheers,
Chris

I thought at first that possibly it was the timing tricker but I don't think so. When I first got the car back after the H/C and tuning. It had a pretty good pull once I hit 3500 rpm's. It was too loud with the loudmouth, so I went with the Mufflex. As soon as I left the exhaust shop I hammered it and nothing happened, no pull at all at 3500rpm's. That is why I suspect the exhaust. It has been about 2 months now with this exhaust and the pull has never come back. I went back had the car retuned with all of the current mods minus the intake, and still no pull.

Also I have seen atleast 2 people who put cutouts on their Mufflex setup and gained around 15rwhp I think.

A true dual is going to be rediculously loud compared to the mufflex.....if you like loudmouths IMO this is LOUDER.....

If you wanna go bigger a dual 3" exhaust should outflow a single 4" exhaust.....that's why I went with the dual 3"...to prep for the future....500+rwhp

Maybe try an SLP Dual/dual. Relatively inexpensive ($300 new or buy a used one for around $200), quiet, and flows very well.

The true duals can be made to be quiet, if it built right. I'm making one that would allow you to add, remove different mufflers, until you get the sound that you want. Bullets are going to be loud, but not as loud as the loudmouth, because it it is a better sound, plus the X or H pipe will quiet it down a little.

The people who have tested the Mufflex systems give very poor marks to both its build quality and its performance. A number of people do like its sound, though.

The best flowing exhaust is going to involve headers, a custom y-pipe, and a cutout. Through a street-legal exhaust, the SLP dual/dual, the Borla, the Corsa, the Hooker, and some of the others all flow quite well.

What I am looking for is a serious flowing exhaust without the noise. Like I said I had the Loudmouth, but when the H/C went in it sounded like a Pro Mod car. I need to be able to hear myself think but still have the best flowing exhaust possible.
I do lots of driving in this car so the quieter the better. Driving to Florida from NJ with the loudmouth was HELL!

Thanks for the input,
