Default Corsa Exhaust is giving me some problems...

I have had my Corsa Exhaust on my car for about 5 weeks. I bolted it on and fell in love with it for about 5 minutes. When my car was in drive (automatic) and I was on the brake (at a stop light etc.) I get this really bad vibrating noise coming from back there. I thought maybe the tips were coming in contact with the bumper for they both clear by 1/2" at the minimum.

This same thing happened to my cousin's car with his borla but mine noise is much more. I think it is really loud because I have no back seats. Any ideas what the cause of this is? I can't really look myself because like I said it is only when the car is in drive, so I can't really hold the brake and look under/behind the car at the same time....

Problemo' #2:

Yesterday I am cleaning my car and decide, well my Exhaust is really new so let me shine it up with a rag real quick while I'm cleaning the exterior. I get under my car and start to wipe the muffler when I see a...???..hole..?????

WTF? There is a hole in the side of the exhaust about the size of a BB (from a rifle/gun.) It looks like someone got a pencil and stabbed the side of my exhaust, I know that didn't happen but that's what it looks like. Because of this a little section of the side is black with exhaust residue, so I know that I'm losing some good air there. What should I do about this? Can a shop weld a little square metal patch on to cover it up? I have no idea...??

TIA,
Jason Scott

I can't help you with the first problem, but all mufflers have a small hole in them.

I think it's to let some of the moisture out that builds up when you first start your car..

Sounds to me like your exhaust is banging on something when you put it in drive because your rpm goes down which causes a more lopy idle hence more more but slower vibration which causes the exhaust to move more. I would check all clearences under the car down the length of the exhaust. Mine doesnt vibrate like that so I am not surew what it could be, my exhaust noises come from my FLP's . I'll check my car later to see if I have the hole also but if you are worried just call up Corsa, they are really cool people. I've talked to the owner a few times and he has been nothing but helpful.

Your over the axle pipe is either coming in contact with the heat sheild that shields the gas tank or its contacting the crossmember that runs along the rear end(im tired this morning, cant think of what its called, lol). I had the same problem with my Corsa at first. You should check clearance at those two spots. If it is touching, loosen up your clamps and adjust accordingly.

BTW- the hole is there to insure moisture doesn't build up inside the muffler.

He is quite correct and I say its the heat shield contacting the rearmost edge of the muffler.

Just put a wheel chok under one of your wheels and put the E-brake on then put it in gear, you should be ok to check things out like that.

Like Chad and Justin said, check everything for clearance problems, something is obviously hitting. My exhust (Bassani) has hangers off the frame of the rear bumper to the tailpipe and was making the same noise you described and was an easy fix, don't know if Corsa has the same kind of hangers, but just a suggestion.

Just get under the car and check the clearances, as for the hole it's done by Corsa to let condensation drain out. The C5 kits have them too. Stop being Paranoid.

Thanks guys! I was just worried about it after putting some quality sh*t on my car

I have checked for clearances with the car off and everything is good but I'm going to have my dad sit in the car and keep it in drive while I get underneath and check it out. Thanks Again Folks!

I just got my Corsa also, the hole is to let moisture drip out of the muffler. Many mufflers have them - it will keep the muffler lasting much longer.

yeah my Corsa makes noise too. The first time I put the system up all the clearances were perfect. And then i noticed that the driver's side tailpipe would creep up to the bumper. So i fixed that and then it started hitting the heat shield over the axle. fixed that and now its the rear side of the muffler revirbirating off of the heat shield. I'm pretty sure when I fix that it will all be good, but I'm waiting for it to get a wee bit warmer out first.

Oh yeah, despite the pain I've had to get this system set up right, I think its still a much nicer cat back than the Borla and the loudmouth that I use to have.

later,
Steve
