Pace 85mm MAF with screen vs without screen
I see Pace sells two 85 mm MAFs with stock LS1 calibration for the f-body. One is screened, and the other (VV) is de-screened:
PAC8411F - PACE 85mm MAF w/ stock LS1 calibration, coupler & harness adapter (F-Body) > $159.95
PAC8411FS – PACE Velocity Volume (VV) 85mm MAF w/ stock LS1 calibration, coupler & harness adapter (F-Body) > $179.95

I now have a stock homeported "gutted" MAF. Do you think this is a worthwhile mod to replace my gutted MAF? BTW, I do not get any pinging from the gutted MAF in there now.
Other than the 20 dollar difference in price, do you think the "VV" version is that much better?
The engine mods my 98 TA/A4 will have is:
1. 218/218 .527/.527 114 LSA cam
2. Hooker LTs with cats
3. JPR stage 1 heads
4. LS6 intake
5. Ed Wright programing
Thanks for any input...
Ron

Re: Pace 85mm MAF with screen vs without screen
BTW, I have heard that Ed Wright will tell you to remove a homeported MAf prior to him reprogramming your PCM after a head/cam package.
With the Pace 85MM "calibrated" MAF, I guess there would be no problem with Ed Wright and his programming. Is that true?
And again.... Is there power in this Pace unit?
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Pace 85mm MAF with screen vs without screen
I believe Patrick G. posted that he could find no horsepower between a de-screened stock MAF and the 85mm MAF. However, I can't remember if the 85mm unit had a screen in it or not. Either way, the 85mm unit with the screen can support more horsepower than the "super-strokers" are currently making.

Thanks Todd....
Come on folks..... Surely there are people in this "Tech" forum that bought a Pace MAF.
Just trying to get some feedback. Good, Bad, or Indifferent
Dump the gutted MAF and install a Pace on the end of an LS6 manifold, or just keep the gutted one?
(heads, mild cam, headers car)

Re: Pace 85mm MAF with screen vs without screen
I've got the screened Pace LS6 Maf on my stock internal '01 SS. So far, no times on. It feels a lttle more peppy but that could be just wishful thinking. They guy I bought it from though tested with and without a few times and said he gained .1 and 1mph consistently with the PACE unit over the stock unit. (He was running an ATI Procharger on a stock motor.)
Hopefully I'm as lucky. Nice looking piece.
