Default Help me decide. Order SLP headers now, or wait for Hooker to come out with a y-pipe?

I have had my Hooker money in the piggybank for awhile, but I've been waiting on them to come out with a y-pipe. I don't want to mess with a custom. I can order SLP's with race pipes and O2 simms on sale (free shipping) for about $850 total and have them next week. I want headers so bad I can't stand it, but Jet Hot coated Hookers are sweet. Then again, so are stainless steel SLP's so what would you do?

Yeah, but from what I understand, it it SLP's y-pipe that has a problem with scraping and not the header itself. No one knows yet if the Hooker y-pipe will scrape or bang the floorboards, like FLP's. I can live with some scraping but not banging. I hear the Hooker y will be out in a few weeks, but we know how a few weeks can turn into a few months.

Last I heard all SLP's were on back order. What year car you buying for and where are you buying? All things being equal, I say go for what you can get first.

TT Performance has them on special with free shipping. They posted this on ls1.com but not here I think. They said they will have a shipment of them in on friday.

Get the Hookers.... SLP's are backordered as a, well, you get the idea, and the hookers Jet coated will be SWEET!!! Holley brand performance products rock (IMO), and SLP's cust service bites. Expect to wait EVEN longer for the Slp's, only to drag em around town, sparks a blazin'!

Just my $0.02 tho

Why are you not interested in a custom y-pipe? If you go to a "quality" muffler shop with the ability to manderan bend the pipes You can make sure they fit properly because they are made for your car ? Just curious ? Good luck !!!

Hey whats up 11Bravo, I just installed the Hookers and had them jet coated. This is what I think, you said that you would be installing them yourself right, well the Hooker were so easy to install, tehy just slid right up in there. They have AWESOME clearance sompared to the SLP's, the collector on the SLP's hang down real low I believe and that is part of what scrapes, especially since you are going to be lowering your car. BUT when all said and done the Hooker are just as expensive as the SLP's assuming you are going yo get them coated, if not than they would be cheaper. I paid $580 for them and then spent another $80 on GM gaskets and stage 8 locking bolts, and my y pipe will cost me $250 installed, that is for a 3" mandrel bent, into a flowmaster collector with flanges on all sides so it is easy to remove. I will post on here how the power gains are with them tommorrow hopefully, that is when I am getting my y pipe done. I would say go with the Hookers if you are concerned with ground clearance and ease of install.

SLP y will drag in some places.. I dont have
problems with speed bumps but do have problems
with steep banked drives.. kinda like roof top
idea.. high center..

SLP looks and sounds great..

Thanks, guys. Yeah, Brendon, I plan to put them in myself, but that's why I want a y-pipe already made. I just want to bolt everything up and not have to worry about someone else touching my car I guess I'm just getting too anxious.

11 Bravo - if you're lowering your car, stay away from the SLP's. If you're not, GET them!! These headers give you 4" of clearance on a non-lowered car. Plenty. I've never scraped mine on speed bumps or anything else. They make great power, and from what I've heard so far on this board, the quality of some of the Hooker shipments hasn't been so great. The quality of the SLP's, combined with the stainless construction would be well worth the $$ to me.

Double check the shipment date, cause I've also heard they may be on backorder.
