12 Bolt Is Dead, Opinions & Gearing Help Needed
Hey everyone, like most of you know I busted up my 12 bolt at River City Raceway a few weekends back. Joseph & I finally got around to taking it apart last night so we can check the damage. We were so sure it was the spider gears in the differential that we went ahead & ordered a spool for it.
Much to our suprise the differential looks intact! The weird part is we're missing a ton of teeth off both gears! Has anyone ever broke there 12 bolt gears?
Another thing thats really bothering us is the fact that the bearing that would go on the drivers side of the differential is completely lose, I mean its not even pressed on! You can put it on & its lose enough that it just falls off. Maybe this has something to do with the gear explosion?
Ok on to the new gearing question We've been running 4.10s, but now that I have to replace the gears we're talking about 4.30 gears?!?!?! Here's a copy of the dyno sheet. This was on the 28" drag tires
As the car sits right now she traps about 126mph, we have to figure that if I can get some pounds out of her 127-128 is very possible. It appears to me that 4.30s might be a better gear for this, but I was told Judson tried 4.30s & 4.56s before going back to a 4.10. Anyone have any advice they can shoot me on this? Its running 28" ET Drags that show 28.1" on M.T. web site.
Thanks for the help guys
