Decided to change my cam with the new combo
I have heard alot about these new XE-R lobes and wanted to talk to Nick about the benefits/risks of going with this new cam.
The cam I was originally going with was a 226/234 557/575 lift on 112LSA.
The new cam will be 228/228 .588 lift 112LSA with the XE-R 3724 lobes.
Should peak around 6400-6500 and hold it to 6800 no problem. The lobes on this cam are VERY aggressive and the double springs are mandatory with this cam. Should be very interesting to see how it works out. Also Nick should have LS1edit in the shop by then and can tune the car in perfectly for the new combo. They are working on my heads now and are very happy with how things look so far.
Here is a summary of the combo (Only the heads and cam are new):
ARE 360 shortblock with forged rods and pistons, offset ground crank
5.3L trucks heads with 2.02 1.60 valves
11.2:1 compression
LS6 intake with Ported Throttle body
228/228 .588 lift 112LSA custom grind with the XE-R 3724 lobes
MAC headers with ported primaries and collector mod, Offroad Ypipe
3 intermediate pipe with cutout, and dynomax Ultraflo welded three inch muffler with 3 inch tailpipe and single 3.5 inch chromed tip.
12 bolt with spool 4.11's
4L70 tranny with manual valvebody and TP4400 converter
Centerline warrior 15x7 inch rims and Hoosier 26x9 inch slicks
right rear airbag
Warrior Skinnies up front.
Little bit of weight reduction (Approx 100 pounds)
Hoping for some good times this season...
Cheers,
Chris

nice combo...should run 12s with ease.
Why the switch to a single pattern, did you give up the bottle in the last 12 hours?

I was wondering when some double springs required profiles would come out.
I guess the limitation of the lobe profile is the lifter's ability to withstand high spring pressure?

Sounds like a great combination! That cam looks nice and healthy, should put down some good numbers.
Oh yeah, modify those MAC's even more, get rid of the ball joints on them and put some nice reducing elbows on them. See if PaiN has an old picture of his modified MACs, same thing Brooke did.

Thats a good looking combo on paper. It should fly with good tuning. Yep, the cam lobes are limited by the lifter. Looks like comp is pushing the limit just a bit with these new cam lobe profiles.

Re: Decided to change my cam with the new combo
Thanks guys
I am curious to see how the lifters will work, I am hoping the stock lifters will be ok? I am sure Nick knows what is best
I am going to shift the car around 6600 depending on the power peak with the cam and how the converter reacts.
Tony I will look into that for sure. Do you know where I can get pics?
Ragtop, I am not going to be running a huge shot of juice if I run any juice at all. I would require a converter change, and gearing/tire change to run the spray. Going to dial in NA first and then if things look good maybe a 150 shot next season with 28 inch slicks and a TPE 4100 converter.
Thanks,
Chris
If I can hook and hit a 1.4-1.5 sixty the times should be quite good I am hoping

Chris,
Where can I get a list of the XE-R lobe profiles. I looked all over comp's websight and didn't see any like the 3724.
Thanks

Re: Decided to change my cam with the new combo
Chris,
Did Nick mention having to grind the rockers for clearance with the double springs? I remember someone on one of the LS1 boards mentioning it, but I never did it with my K-800's, and don't have any problem as far as I know Thanks.

Hmmmm...... what about for cams between 236 and 248? Where can I see the list?
Gotta plan for a new cam myself with the new motor

Re: Decided to change my cam with the new combo
Thanks Chris. I'm still contemplating calling Nick myself He offered to install and tune any cam of my choice for free if I wasn't happy with the one he originally sent me (218/224 .528/.535 114LSA), but I'm not really sure if I'm losing that much power with the one I have.

Nice cam copycat. My 226/226, 113LSA cam goes in on Saturday. These XE-R lobes rock!
Nineball, I have the sheet from Comp I can fax to you.

Re: Decided to change my cam with the new combo
You will have to grind the rockers.
No biggie, Ive done it lots on several cars now. The corner of the rocker is curved, and you can just use a Dremmel to square it out.
Im curious about the following: Is the weight of the big 2.08 valves going to prohibit some of us who even have the dual valvesprings from running lobes like this?
Also... PLEASE watch out for the K800s. Your mileage may vary (YMMV), but they were deflating my stock lifters. I moved to the Cranes listed in the sig.

Re: Decided to change my cam with the new combo
LOL Patrick haha
I would think my 228/228 112LSA .588 lift cam would be fairly similar in peaks to your 226/226 113LSA cam .585 lift.
Cheers,
Chris
