WTF?
Why are you some of you guys putting 5.3 truck heads on your cars?
?
Are you doing it for the increased compression? Is it really work the loss in flow (in stock form) over the 5.7 heads?
IF you want the compression why not do it RIGHT and change out the pistons? :squint:

LOL!
Less milling to get high compression but you have to do port work to get the flow numbers up there again. I am shooting for 11.2:1 comp out of my ARE 5.3L heads.
Cheers,
Chris

I dont know of anyone putting stock 5.3 heads on there car. People get the 5.3 heads ported to flow like ported 5.7 heads and then bolt on the 5.3's because of the smaller combustion chambers.

I just don't understand paying good money for truck heads and THEN spending even more to have them ported.

If you are getting a Stage 2 head from a vendor the cost is the same. Core charge (AFAIK) is the same. They both require porting and valve change.

(as compared to buying a set of LS6 heads or spending more money on a set of LS1 5.7 heads.)
If you want the compression, change the pistons.
It just reaks of "cheap" to me.

I did not realize the cost was the same, but then again I do my own head work.
I understand, now.

That depends on cam choice, AF ratio and timing advance but if you use 93-94 octane and a reasonable timing curve you will be fine
