Re: LS1 timing chain?
You can go with Comp Cams, Cloyes, and Katech has one (can't remember the name). You can get the Cloyes & Comp Cams through almost any sponsor here.

Re: LS1 timing chain?
This whole timing chain deal for the LS1 is kind of screwed up.
1. Some say the Comp Cams and the Cloyes are no better than stock (other than being adjustable). In fact, I have heard that they use the stock GM/Reynolds chain.
2. The Cloyes and the Comp Cams adjustable timing sets cost about $160. Jeeze, a double roller timing set for my old Turbo Buick costs aroung 65 bucks!
2. I have heard the best setup is a combo set. That is a "Jewes" (sp) chain with a gearset purchased from Katech. So now you have a setup that runs around 200 bucks! And its all mix and match!
3. I have heard the Comp Cams "double roller" really isnt a true double roller.
4. Then there is the "real good" Rollmaster timing set from Australia. Well, you have to find someone that lives down-under and have them mail it to you. Oh, and you need to shim it up to make it clear the timing cover, or something to that extent.
5. Then you have the stock GM setup. That thing is as loose as a goose in a couple of thousand miles. Valve timing then is all over the place.
Bottom line..... I dont think there is any real good, practical, and fairly priced timing sets out there for the LS1.
So, what to buy if you want a new timing set (chain and gears)? Who knows!
Good Luck in your search

Nick from ARE order a bunch of double rollers the other day, you could try him.

This is what I used with my solid roller motor and it held up great. However, I reused the stock gear/chain when I installed the Thunder 224 114lsa cam awhile back. Personally, I wouldn't bother replacing it unless your car has a ton of miles on it or you would be running some insane spring pressure.

Go with the Cloyes/Jwis setup from Katech.
I actually have an extra set for $175 if anyone needs one. mjarnold@telocity.com

Re: LS1 timing chain?
I just installed the Katech (810-791-4120) setup for about $220. This uses the Cloyes Hex-Adjust gear set with the Jwis single roller chain. The chain links are about 20% thicker than stock. I decided to change the timing chain because my 9K miles stock chain had .380 slack side to side. I just couldn't install a new cam with that slopy POS chain. The new chain has about .100 slack side to side. The Cloyes Hex-Adjust gear on the cam uses an eccentric bushing that allows infinitely adjustable cam timing +/- 6 degrees...very easy. I ended up setting the eccentric to 2 degrees advance in order to get the intake centerline at 1 degree retard.
One other tidbit, Comp Cams told me today that regular flat tappet cams are ground with 4 degrees advance, but the LS1 only has 2 degrees advance! So, I believe that my 1 degree retard combined with the 2 degrees advance from Comp actually nets 1 degree advance.
Now that's a mouthful <img src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" border="0" alt="[barf]" />
Have fun,
John
email me if you want even more install detail.
