What about a catch can for PCV ...
instead of connecting to intake manifold?
I just removed my LS1 intake to install an LS6 intake and I couldnt believe the amount of oil burned/coating the cyl. head intake runners. What a crying shame!!
So as we're looking at it, we're thinking (to the best of our ability) why not just get a catch can with a breather on it and run lines from the back of both valve covers to the can. Then block off the intake port, the TB fresh air line, and the passenger valve cover "fresh air" in line.
Is there any way this would work? Does the PCV have to vent into the intake?

Hmm... still no takers on this.
Well we've done some more playing around with it and actually made a 2 1/2 by 5 inch catch can with a cylinder in the middle welded to the top(like an inverted glass) to try out. The plan is to run from both valve covers into the side of the can, then out of the top of the can/inner cylinder to the stock PCV valve at the intake.
Our aim is to slow the air down enough for the oil mist to seperate from the air before being drawn through the inner cylinder and back to the intake.
Any thoughts on this idea??

I just spent a few minutes trying to do the "text drawing" and when I deleted it, I noticed yours was gone. I have been thinking about using a catch can modified by adding a baffle or some coarse steel wool to separate the oil mist out. I figured it shouldn't be too hard. The only problem I could think of is condensation in the can, but that really would not be too bad because it would have to be drained periodically anyway to get the oil out.
Someone needs to manufacture this type of set up and sell it on LS1Tech.com. They could make a few bucks and make it simple for those who need a PCV set up like this.
steve, a few questions for you then.
1. Do you have a breather vent on yours?
2. Do you have anything in the can (mesh/filter/etc)?
3. Has it kept the oil from entering your intake?

I would NOT disconnect the PCV from the intake. You really need the vaccum line hooked up so it can relieve the crank case pressure. Venting to a catch can is not enough to relieve the pressure and you will get some blow by which is not good. I have the line from the valve covers going into a catch can, then a hose to the pcv valve, then a hose to the intake. It works pretty good until 3-4 ounces of oil collects in the can. Here is a pic of what the can looks like. Its just a big fuel filter.
Thanks Jamie99. Thats how we're doing it, as stated in my 3rd post. I've been gathering as much info as I can the past 2 days. Anyone else?
I have a JAZ catch can i have had sitting around for months on end to do the same thing. it should work just fine. really not much different than using filters inline...just the filters you have to replace all the time.
I also made a catch can of sorts using some fuel filters. I left the system fully connected, but just added the area for the oil to accumulate in a see through housing. It worked pretty well and proved the PCV was a problem on my car. I eventually did the "machining" in the engine valley and went with the LS6 system.
