Default Do LS1s have "matching numbers"?

You know, like the old muscle cars have the block #s match the vin #s or the head #s match anything or are they just any pair off the shelf. Im wondering because Im doin a H&C package, but if the #s match my cat, the Ill buy a used set of heads for the core. TIA.

All of the parts block, heads, transmission, etc. just have part numbers. They have no specific number to the vin number. I called a person at GM to find this out because they had to replace my tranny and i didnt want non-matching numbers.

Yeah I've thought about that. Anyone keep there heads when they get ported ones so they can put them back on? That way you could sell the ported heads later on.

I kept my original set of heads from the last car and it was a damn lucky thing b/c I had to have something to put on the car so I could remove the ported ones after the flood.

All cars and truck have #s on them, it is how the factory identifies them.

Whats even worse is that on the C5's the exhaust pipes have the build sequence number of the car etched into the flanges.

It is not the full VIN number, according to the information I read. It was only the last 6 or 7 digits of the VIN. Anyone know which digits for sure?
