Default S2 heads & oil issue !

Since the S2 heads install I noticed the oil was down 1/2 quart. I checked the throttle blade and it had oil on it! It never did this before. How would the S2 heads cause this now? Is it normal?
I bought the new PCV fitting. Should I use it? Has anyone had a problem with it on a H/C car?

Thanks.

Palm, without having been there, i can assume that extra rpm from stage 2 setup would aggravate the oil consumption issue. I would try new pcv to see effects, if this isnt enough i would put a separator/baffle between pcv valve and hose running to rear of valve covers. I also use a push on breather(AUTO ZONE) on dipstick tube, this vents lower end directly, and helps lower vacuum in pcv system. Give these a try.

I have seen MMS Stage 2 heads that have been opened up so much they actually broke through the port wall and into the boss where the rocker arm bolt screws into. If thats the case with your heads too, make sure you use a silicone sealer on the threads of the bolts to help prevent oil from seeping past the threads and into the combustion chamber.

I hope your wrong on that point!

But, I like the idea of a breather on the dipstick. What about a Metco valve cover breather?

Haha, Actually probably all the leading ported heads out there have the rocker bolt boss removed. That's nothing uncommon.

If you have oil on your TB, then it's coming from your PCV system and no where else.

Mike Morgan is right on both accounts, it doesnt take much to port thru boss and expose threads.
Also dont use silicone sealer on rocker bolt threads, because gasoline will dissolve it , use Teflon pipe sealant in a tube, or other hi pressure sealer like aviation sealer. I love the idea of Metco breather BTW.

It's easy to make a ghetto breather, just unplug the PVC hose from the TB, put a cap on the TB end, and you're done.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to try the new PCV fitting and see how that works.
When I take the foam covering off the stock PCV, do I have to put it back on the new fitting?

LS1derful, On my 98 if I follow the PCV hose back from the TB it comes to a section that has, it looks like, foam cover, what I thought was the PCV valve.
Maybe I better look it up in my Helms before I say anymore. I seem to be stupid enough as it is.

Palmb. on my 2001 pcv valve is pushed in a rubber hose or boot, it has a metal band around it also to transfer heat to the valve to help dry up condensation in pcv valve, i would reuse whatever is there on your car with new pcv valve.

Here is the rocker bolt hole you're talking about.

Whew. That makes me feel much better. I did a set of heads and I exposed the rocker arm threads and felt like a real jackass. Now I feel better that it happens to others...
