i think in nascar when they run restrictor plates they run more compression because they dont get as much cylinder filling from the restrictor. kinda like the opposite of forced induction.

if this is true, running a little more compression than usual might be a good idea since the ls1/ls6 intakes show some restriction and vacuum at wide open throttle.

i have heard that for each point increase in compression there is a 3% gains in power.

higher compression is awesome if it can be tolerated on pump gas. more power, smoother idle, better efficiency, less emmisions. gotta love it.

That is exactly right. That is part of the reason the Colonel can run so much compression. I think when he (or any other high comp big motor) gets a matched intake to his setup he may have to change the cam or look at reduced timing or higher octane.
