Again, a 98 with just a cat-back, lid, and coverter (less than 3,500 stall) is going to have one hell of a time ever seing the 12s except maybe on an AOL Chat Room! Everyone is very fast in those rooms....
--------------------------------------------------

Kimchee, My 98 Z runs 12.8's @107 all day with just a Tci verter, 4" catback and 3.73's. I dont think the gears have that much to do with it. Before the gears I ran 13.27 and after I ran 13.11. Maybe it's a Fluke?

Later, Stu

Ok.... I may be wrong here. I was just useing a couple of HP calculators anyway.

But, from what I have seen at the track, the average stock 98-99 f-body with A4 is getting high high 13 sec times. Add a lid and a cat-back, and those times decrease .2-.3 sec

That puts them in the mid to low 13s.

Maybe todays Yank converters are better, but those Yanks we were buying back in 98 were worth about .2 sec and no mph change.

And, my 98 is more than likely a DOG anyway. That will change once I leave Korea and start thowing $$ money $$ at it.

Ron, are you over there by choice? Maybe in the military? I have been for years. Are LS1's rare there?

I have been over here for almost 3 years. Was only going to stay 1. I am a Dept of Defense Civilian (DOD). Facility chief for the flight simulation activity over here.

My 98 TA is in storage in Phoenix. Been there the whole 3 years. It gets started and drivin about 50 miles about once a year whenever I take a vacation. Then goes back in the garage with a car cover. Hasnt hurt it yet. Lots of fuel stabilizer in it. No insurance on it and the plates expired in 99.

I am not extending here anymore, so I fope to be back in the states before Christmas. Oh Well

Ron,

BTW, I have only seen a couple of LS1s over here. There was a guy that had a Vortech SC LS1 TA here. Dont know if he is still over here. I did not know him personally and he was from a different base.

No offense fellas, but you must have bought some slower 98 LS1's. A buddy mine owns a 2:73 geared 98 T/A that made 307 rwhp bone stock, and ran 13.40's/105 BONE stock. With the addition of a lid, pulley, catback, and free mods the car went 13.0's/107. He could have taken a **** and been in the 12's that day. My 98 made 317 rwhp bone stock, and my buddy's 98 Z28 made 326 rwhp with a lid and catback.

My POS weak 98 ran 115 mph traps with a stock motor and ran like I drive it on the street, damn those slow 98's .

Convertors now are worth WAY more then .2-.3 tenths!

Something is really wrong with a stock LS1 if its running high 13s. Are you at some sort of elevation or racing is 115 degree temps?

I ran my 98 SS A4 yesterday. My best time was a 13.1 @ 104.6. My only mods are K&N FIPK and a Random Tech cat-back. I think 12's are entirely possible!

Thanks a lot for all the replys everyone!!

Well, I bought the car. I just couldnt pass up the deal. The car feels like mid 13's to me right now (certainly a LOT better than the '85's 15.0@91.5 best). I'll get to the track as soon as it opens and let you guys know what I run. I'll tell you one thing, I LOVE CUPHOLDERS!! You dont know how much difference such little things make in the overall enjoyment of a car.

Now for the next ?

The stock exhaust has to go. What brand cat back flows the best? Which sounds best? I was thinking about SLP loudmouth, but Im not sure how it flows. Also which airlid is the best? Ive heard the K&N FIPK kicks some bootie...what do you think?

-thanks everyone!
