Default Newbe to the board... Hello and a few Q's

I'll admit, I've been lurking over here for a few days... about as long as I've had my '02 z28. I'm rather new to this whole "fuel injected" thing, so I have some questions about my car.

Is removing the MAF screen as easy as it sounds in the tech article? Is it advisable on a stock car? What about one with a dry (100HP) kit?

Before I put my nitrous kit on, I plan to change to TR55 plugs (or should I go with TR6's). Got any suggestions as to what I should set the gap to? I don't use the juice that often either which is why I'm not planning on the cooler plug.

I figure the 10-bolt is just as pathetic as the one that my '84 z28 originally came with. I have 3.4x gears now, and have no plans to go with 3.73 or 4.11 either, but would a rear end girdle help any?

So far, the only things I have are the CAGS eliminator and some water wetter, lol. I see that Holley makes an air filter (it's blue) to compete with K&N... is it any good? I'm looking for a GP on those MTI clear lids too. Do they make one for the '02 yet?

Thanks

Welcome!

My goodness, you have ALOT of questions for alot of different forums but I'll try to take them all here rather than have you ask each in the appropriate forum.

Yes, removing the MAF screen is as easy as it sounds and there is nothing wrong with doing so on a stock car or with N2O.

Go with TR-6s gapped at about .038.

Yes, it is a pathetic rearend and yes a girdle *might* help a little. It's according to what wants to break first in your rearend. Personnally, I would just save my money for a 12-bolt rear when the stock rearend bites the dust. You might get lucky and the stocker lasts a long time. Bottom line, there IS NO bandaiding the stock rear to take major abuse.

Yes, the Holley filter is good. Some say even better than the K&N filter. They are very similar in design.

Yes, you can use an MTI lid with a 2002. You will simply need to use a small filter for the air system hose that normally plugs into the stock lid. MTI will supply that for you. Be sure to tell them what year model you have.

Enjoy yourself here. There's LOT'S of good info to read and learn. Take some time to use the search feature. You will probably find that many of the questions you have have already been answered and are just a search away. For whatever questions you still may have there are forums setup to deal with all different areas.

Hey Matt... I haven't spoken to you in a long time! Almost a whole 2 hours You guys can all blame him for pointing me to this site...

Another question that I couldn't seem to find in the archives: What one or two mods would it take for a 02 z28 to beat a 02 C5? Obviously a 100HP shot, but I'm talking about the little things like a ASP pulley or long tube headers. How about a z28 vs. a SS? Would a K&N and a Wisper lid be enough to make up the XHP difference? Just curious...
