Default Is this a 'normal' problem??

I just got my 99 TA 3 days ago. It's a stock A4 car. Well I raced this guy on the way to work this morning. I punched it from the stoplight and right before it shifted into second gear, it hit the rev limiter, then shifted. I still won the race, tho.
Is it normal for the car to hit the rev limiter? Or is that caused my transmission slippage while it's shifting?

tranny fluid. Might want to pull the pan and change the filter while you're at it.

Ya, I think that would be a good idea. I need to change the oil too anyways.
