Default PRC 5.3L stage 2.5 heads, 228r cam + other goodies

Two weeks ago I ordered a few parts for the SS camaro, and I wanted to show them off.

These are the items that I ordered:

PRC 5.3L stage 2.5 heads(2.04", Dual springs, Tit. retainers)
TSP 228r cam on 114(trying to squeak by the sniffer)
Dynatech supermaxx header system
GM MLS gaskets and head bolts
SVO 42lb injectors
crane 7.4" chromoly pushrods
LS7 lifters
New GM timing chain
Motive 3.90 gears and install kit

I asked TSP to give me flow numbers for the heads but I guess they forgot to include them in the package.

I am going to be installing all this stuff myself excluding the gears within the next month. It will be Dyno-tuned at Synergy, Im hoping for 430+rwhp and 400+rwtq. I'll post the dyno numbers as soon as I get them.

Heres some pics:

This is the car the parts are going to be installed on:

I hoped you enjoyed the show and if anybody wants any more pics I will gladly add them as soon as I can.

Thanks to all the guys at TSP for the quality products, great prices and fast delivery. So far I would have to say it is money very well spent.

I was told TSP is still sending out flow sheets with their heads... but all I read is that the sheets keep being 'forgotten'. I'm still waiting for complete flow numbers, preferably on the 2.02 intake, before I buy.

I like your parts list, looks good. Just wondering how you can pass inspection in CA with all that good stuff?

Thanks for the responses.

And to Jim I asked them for a flow sheet, he said he would do what he could to get it to me. So he never said he would for sure get the flow sheet, but I did expect to get one. I'm sure they're pretty busy over there at TSP with these great deals going on, and as long as they make good numers I don't need the flow numbers.

I work at a dealer with a smog station about 30 feet away from me. I really don't have to worry about the sniffer either but I would rather pass that.

I like those heads. I have been beating around the bush on calling and nabbing a set of those for myself.

Keep us posted on how she runs.

That's one of the reasons I want to remove my current heads, because the shop will not give me flow numbers. I need a new cam, and if I don't like it, then I'm back in the same boat except with a lighter wallet. Hopefully the numbers arrive Monday after Jason returns from Vegas

Man you must be pumped!

That is a huge amount of mods all at once, you'll definitely received a huge improvement on the *** dyno

I'll be interested to see your results and to see if you pass smog

Yeah I'am pretty excited.

I will start tearing down the motor tommorrow, and should have everything done in a week or two if everything goes smooth.

I will keep this thread alive and post dyno numbers, I can also run a free smog pre-test at work, and will post up the results if it can pass smog or not.

Update:

I finished the head/cam install yesterday. Car fired right up thanks to the TSP mail order tune. I think the tune is a little off, but it runs pretty good for a mail order tune. The 228R has a very nice lope to it.

The car sounds great, and I now really like the sound of the magnaflow exhaust.

I will be getting a dyno tune some time in february, if anybody wants any pics or videos just post and I will see what I can do.

And a BIG Thanks to TSP for the great service, products, and espeacially prices.

Theres some surging when coming to a stop. It dips down to 500rpm then to 1000rpm, then settles quickly at 750rpm. I also have to slip the clutch a little more off the line which I expected.

Overall I think it was worth the $100.00 I spent so I dont have to tow or drive my car without a tune to a dyno tune shop right away.

I think that's the whole purpose of thier m/o tune. It saves you a lot of trouble, although the tune is almost right on the money. Well worth the $100. I'm really interested to see your dyno #'s so keep us posted.

I dyno's today at 425 RWHP and 400 RWTQ

see sig

There is more to be had in my set up. My AFR dropped to 10.00 under load and then leveled out at 10.75

Nice numbers for the Air fuel ratio. I would be happy if my setup made that dyno tuned.

In your clip what RPM is the car idleing at? I had TSP set my idle at 750rpm, and mine seems to sound a little more choppy. Is that a TSP mail order tune?

Thanks, Eric

mine is not a mail order tune, and I think for that clip my idle was at 950.
I have since lowered it to 850. Im on a 114. 750 RPM may be a little lower and you may not be getting alot of manifold pressure off idle.

Another vette next to had the same set up as me dyno'd 10 RWHP less, and a couple TQ less, but his tune need to be cleaned up also.

He had the LS7 clutch, and his heads were milled 59CC. Mine are 62.5 CC other than that, our set up was the same.

Hey man nice numbers. I have the same heads and a smaller 222cam. The 5.3 heads and cam with mail order tune are great for the budget. Nice setup on a nice car.
