Default locking down the flywheel

Im working on my camswap right now and havent had any problems yet until now. I cant figure out how to jam my flywheel from turning when trying to break the crankshaft bolt loose.

I swear Ive tried every angle with a big screw driver, but still cant figure out how to jam it in there.

Can someone please help let me know how this is done?

Im a stalled automatic, so obviously, I cant put it in 4th gear like I learned from working on friends' cars.

if you can't borrow an impact wrench off of anyone you might be able to put your ratchet on there and hit it with a decent sized hammer or maybe even a sledgehammer but you may have a problem with the socket staying on or rounding the head off.they make a tool to turn motors or lock them with the flywheel but it would suck to have to buy one just for that.i've used a very large screwdriver before but you will need someone else to help you,one to hold the screwdriver to lock up the motor and the other to break the bolt loose.good luck whatever you wind up doing and maybe it will break loose for you.

I do have an impact wrench, but I also have a friend here helping, so do you think I should try having him break it and have me jam a screw driver in the teeth and just hold with all my might?

On some cars (haven't tried an LS1) you can put the end of the screwdriver againt the frame

I usaully have a friend hold a flathead screw driver againest the flywheel. Just pop off the access hole cover and stick the screwdriver in there to lock the flywheel and break the bolt loose. Or simply use the air gun, which would be easier.

so what? just take an impact to the crank bolt? that might work you think? I figured it would just turn the crank with it.

Pull the starter and use a 3/8' extension in the FW hole.

With a real good size screwdiver you have a lot of leverage against the flywheel. I haven't done it but I would be inclined to try to use two so as to not put too much load one one tooth. Hold the screwdriver(s) and have your freind break the bolt loose, then the impact gun will take it out the rest of the way.

My wife (5'2" 115lbs.) wedged it in the teeth and then wedged it against the ground and held it there with her foot; leg fully extended while I loosened the crank bolt.

I made this to put the new damper on,Its a little rigged up but it worked .Get a bigger impact gun and make sure your going the right way...................Paul

Damn, I forgot to look back here. My apologies gents.

I finally rode it with the impact gun continuously for maybe 7 minutes, and then go under there and popped off that cap on the driver's side bell housing and just held the screw driver in the teeth with my body weight.

Anyways, thanks for your help and ideas everyone
