SLP LS6 EGR Intake Install Problem
Installed (or tried) an SLP LS6 EGR intake and had a leak around the top o-ring. Of course trying to correct the problem only led to a @#$%! split o-ring. Instructions say the fitting and o-ring are not serviceable. Anyone else run into this and come up with a solution ?
same problem with me before but got it fixed now.just have to take your time to install it.once you cut the o-ring your screwed.it will leak.call slp have them send you a new fitting and o-ring.hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply.... How much was the fitting ? and How did you get the 1st one off ? Looks like its at least a 1 1/4 fitting and threadlocked. Holding the fitting inside the intake looks like it will be a @#$% to keep it from spinning.
Boy is this getting to be a common theme. I haven't heard from anybody that has run this for any length of time without recurrent leaking problems at that o-ring. Surprises me, I would have guessed SLP could have engineered that ok with the resources at their disposal. Keeps alot of potential customers on the sidelines...
If you guys are having problems with leaks, I developed an adapter for the LS6 intake working with the engineer from the intake team at GM for advice. The main point was for a couple of older GM SEMA cars to use the LS6 adapter. I just CNC'd them from a billet of 6061-T6. The main change that I made was to still keep the required air buffer to thermally isolate the EGR tube, but add a step in the bore to positively seal the oring against the bottom of the bore. This really stopped the leaks all together.

Let me know if this would help any of you out and I can make a few for people.

How much will it cost me I'll need one for my LS6 intake that is on it's way? I was going to get the piece that Lingenfelter makes for the EGR that has a step in it.

I have there intake also, with the same problem. I bought some orings at the hardware store and siliconed the hell out of them. The leak stopped! for awhile now it leaks a little still. Should have bought one without the EGR fitting. I lost three HP after it was installed. <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0">

I have been thinking about getting the slp ls6 intake so i can keep my car smog legal, live in CA, but now i am reconsidering. If I get the slp ls6 intake should i expect problems? How hard is it to keep these problems away? Thanks guys
^I dont have one but I am looking at getting one....used. From what I have read/heard leaks seem to be the norm with the adapter, I really wish SLP would have come up with a better option than brass fittings and hacking up your EGR tube. They even bumped the price up to $625 now along with $50 to ship it, would rather get a used LS6 intake and get an adapter if that was an option.
Lingenfelter discontinued their much nicer EGR adapter about a year ago because the shop they were having machine it didn't want to make it anymore. I really wish they would bring it back, even machining it out of aluminum instead of plastic would be fine by me. Just paint it flat black and it would almost look factory once it's installed.
