Looks like you can get a decent factory gasket these days

Looks like a 2002 GM factory head gasket for the LS1. I was shocked the first time I saw them.

Could be

This one is actually for a 4" bore. 6.0L gaskets. #12569365

But the same style is available for the 5.7L and the 4.8/5.3L

I'll dig up those part numbers when i get to work.

I will measure the bore tonight, but i put up against my 6.0L heads to compare. It's about .1" bigger all the way around than the chamber. But i will confirm the actual diamter.

Those aren't 3 seperate gaskets. The gasket is a 3 layer metal setup. Main compresion seal is made by the inner layer, and the coolant passage seal is made by the spring steel/"rubber coating" on the outer layers. They are interchangeable between sides.

guys don't get all revved up about these gaskets GM doesn't sell individual gaskets now. The head gaskets now come in a kit that includes the bolts and valve cover gaskets etc. so the cost is substantially higher.

You can get them in a kit with all the needed gaskets and headbolts, etc., or individually. I believe the PN for the LS1 head gasket (one) is 12573949.

I recently purchased the '02 head gaskets and head bolts too. They were sold separately.

[Quote] "And yes, the 5.7 bore P/N is correct 12573949".

I am confused here. The P/N for the right and left stock LS1 head gasket is P/N 12558809 & 12558810. I understand the Rt and Lft sides are [not] interchangable. These part numbers are also in the LS1.Com database.

Why are my part numbers different from what you folks are posting?

Thanks,
Ron

new gaskets, not side specific.

The new ones are 3 layer metal instead of the old graphoil

y2khawk...

Thanks for the reply.

So, what I understand is that P/N 12573949 will get you one 3 layer stock LS1 head gasket, or will this P/N get you a pair of them?

Right a left side of this new gasket is interchangable

Is this new gasket now installed from the factory on all 2002 LS1s or is this a newly released GM Performance Part (not used as a factory installed part)?

Thanks alot..... Well I guess there is no reason to put the stock 98 graphite gaskets in there anymore. Thanks for posting info on these updated gaskets.

However, to play the other side of the coin, I cant think of anyone that has blown the stock head gaskets on your typical heads/cam/headers car (as long as no spray/no boost)

Jay,
So you are saying; The new head gaskets cannot be ordered separatly?

If they come in a kit, what the kits P/N and price?

What is exactly in the kit? Both head gaskets, all M-11 short, all M-11 long, and all M-8 head bolts?

Thanks Jay,
Ron Larson
