Default Base circle difference between Lunati B1/T1 and TR224?

I just swapped cams from a Lunati 221/224 to a Thunder Racing TR224/224. I had my plunger depth set at .010-.020" on the old cam, but the valves clatter a bunch with the TR 224 cam. I removed .020" in shims under the rockers and the clatter improved, but the valve are still tapping more than they should. Is the TR 224 that much smaller in base circle compared to my old Lunati?. I've got .035" more shim under the rockers. My pushrods are 7.350". My heads have been milled around .040-.050"...that's why the rockers were shimmed. maybe the shorter pushrods are all I need. Help please!

Go measure your B1/T1. My TR224 came in at 1.493 I beleive. How many turns past zero lash did you have to go before the rocker bolt wanted to stop?

JMX,

The stem heights on the valves are not consistent enough. On my exhaust valves, they only needed a half turn past zero lash. That's why I took .020" of shim out. Maybe I need to have more plunger depth.

I don't know if this will help any, but here goes:

On Chris's car (443rwhp GTP stg 2 heads/TR224 cam), we used stock length hardened pushrods (7.400). The 5.3l heads were milled 15 thousandths.

What lifters are you using?

I'm still using the stock lifters Jason (but they're my 2nd set).

As long as you have at least 10thou preload and less than say, 100thou, you should be fine (stock lifters seem pretty forgiving). The cam is just gonna be a little noisier since it has fairly steep ramps.

Either way, I use 7.400" pushrods for my TR224, and used 7.350" for my previous cam (224/230 .540)
