Default Need Help Selecting a Blower Cam

I need some help selecting a cam for my car. I have a Vortech V-9 G-Trim supercharger on my 2001 WS6. I have headers, high flow cats, stock gears which I may change to 3.73's, Vig3200 and custom programming. I have stock heads now but plans are for some 2.02 1.60 stage II's next fall. I want a cam that will work well with my current setup but will also work well with the heads I plan on getting later on. Thanks for your help.

I am in just about the exact same boat as you right now. I have a 2001 SS with Vortech blower, long tube headers, and all the bolt on mod's (see my website for a full list). I'm thinking of getting the heads/cam package in the next couple months. Here is what "my guy" is recommending for the cam:

[quote]Cam specs are 214/224 on a 114LSA. Very tame on the intake side and about a stock idle, but larger on the exhaust side to help with scavenging with the SC application

Maybe that helps you get started. Any comments from the pro's out there?

FWIW, the 222/222 or even the 218/218 cams from Comp Cams would do well in a blower application. They are larger than stock, obviously, but mild enough to pass the forced air. They are also reasonably priced.

One suggestion, tune for it NA, THEN add the blower. It will go much easier once the NA tuning is out of the way. You can, then, rule out any NA tuning issues. Makes the tuner's job a lot easier.

Good Luck!

I was under the assumption that the split duration was the way to go. Ed Wright suggested a 224-228 for some nice power but I wasn't sure about the lift. I like a lopey idle but I don't want it to not idle. Where is roughhammer at??? He seems to be a cam guru...

I am using a Comp Cams 218/224 .527/.534 114 cam for my blower motor.

Are you pleased with it? Would you recommend it? Does the idle sound much different than the stock cam (lope)?

Depending on how radical you plan on going, I would try and stick to a cam with a max of around 4 degrees split and put it on a 114 LSA.
Good Luck,
Let me know if you would like some help with that. We do have some custom grinds that would do great in that setup.
Thanks,

how does that 224-228 idle? I like a nice lope but don't want to fight it from stalling. Also what would be the difference in a low lift cam vs a higher lidt cam of the cam duration? For instance a 218/224 .527/.534 114 vs a 218/224 .563/.568 114 please let me know.

I like the sound of this one.

I would think that 218/224//114, but with more lift like 550-560 lift...

I think that the 224/228//114 cam is tasty and I would run that. But I think it's a bit big if you are concerned about it making the car high maintenance.
