They used up the last of the production LS1 blocks into 2001. Once the run was spent they moved to the LS6 block. FWIW.
The 2001 LS6 had a different cam and the heads didn't have the lighter valves. These came out in 02. Also, at the start of 02 production, all LS6 engines got the newer Napier ring design, the LS1's got them about two weeks into production. Not sure on the pistons, which were introduced in March of 01 as to if both the LS1 and LS6 got them at the same time or not.
