We lifted the body off of it at the dealer. I've heard of it being done out the top. Just more dismantaling of the motor. Like I do on vans. remove the intake and run a chain across the valley. Covering the valley, (But vans u have to take the grill, rad, condensor, ect out to make a hole. Don't know bout LS1's.)

You can pull the motor through the top with out any problem and without having to remove any accessories. The only thing I would take off is the intake manifold just to give you a little more clearance with the cowl.

HOW COULD IT BE EASIER TO PULL IT FROM THE BOTTOM????? I just don't see how it could be easier???? I have never understood how to do it anyway...... so my question is WHAT IS ENVOLVED IN PULLING IT FROM THE BOTTOM??? I would like to know what kind of parts need to be removed and how long does it take also

It stays on the cradle and lift the rest of the body up. I personally haven't done this. but, seen it done. They were quick about it.

I just did it yesterday from the bottom

only a couple pics here:
https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=20&t=000279

We've got about 80 more on another guy's camera

Had the cooling system and AC outta the car already.

Rolled the car in, up in the air to finish the disconnect on the under side. Back on the ground, to pull the last bit of wiring disconnect. Unbolted the trans crossmember and cradle. Disconnect front brake lines. Lift car off body.

Then pull the motor off the cradle, and put the cradle back in to roll the car back on the trailer.

4 hours time for pull and reinstall of front suspension.

It's super easy taking an LS1 out from the bottom. You are going to need some sort of cradle. Kent-Moore makes one that works great, but is quite pricey. We can normally have one out in about an hour. Here is what you have to remove:

-drain coolant
-shifter handle (6speed only)
-lid/maf assembly
-y-pipe
-undo torque arm from tranny
-driveshaft
-undo hydraulic clutch line going to tranny (6speed only)
-PCM and necessary connections on passenger side and connection under passenger side dash board
-AIR tubes from headers
-steering shaft
-fuel line and connection to EVAP on the intake manifold
-undo vacuum line going to brake booster
-front sway bar
-remove AC compressor and tie wrap out of the way (no need to discharge AC)
-alternator wire
-starter
-undo plug going into the oil level sensor on passenger side of the oil pan
-undo passenger side front 02 sensor
-grounds on side of block (driver/passenger side)
-cruise control cover shield
-all coolant hoses
-undo front suspension (shock bolts, etc.)
-front tires
-remove 3 bolts/side holding k-member to car
-remove 4 bolts holding tranny cross member to car

There is a few other things I know I'm forgetting, but you get the general idea of what needs to come out. It's not hard at all.

Jason

when pulling the motor from the top , could you pull it without unbolting the headers ( mac's)from the heads??
i removed mine before pulling the motor out and would like to install them while the motor is out if possible.

i see that it is possible for all of it to come out together, however would it be easier if i left my m6 tranny in the car and pulled the motor alone? if i did that, would it make it easier?

Raughammer's page has given me what i needed to know...but i would rather not pull the tranny if possible!

Thanks
