Default New H/ cC Combination Questions?

Got new head and cam installed and just pickup in Dallas and drove home. Anyway I have the following questions------Please--------

1. How long does it take the PCM(Custom tuning) to learn the new variables?

2, How long does it take to break-in the heads/cam miles wise? ALso, do I vary the speed,ETC?

3. When should I have the oil change.

4, After the break-in, will HP #'s go up and if so, how much?

I would sincerely appreciate your help with these questions. This is a great forum. I know some of my questions are elementary to some, but I am still learning. Therefore, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It took a solid 50 miles or so before my car felt good w/ the custom tuning. Granted, this is on a stock LS1.

2. How long does it take to break-in the heads/cam miles wise? ALso, do I vary the speed,ETC?

I would put around 500 miles on the setup and then change the oil. You don't have to vary the speed, etc. because you're not seating a set of rings.

3. When should I have the oil changed.

see the above post

4. After the break-in, will HP #'s go up and if so, how much?

You're not going to gain any HP from added miles on springs, etc. However, you may pick up a few HP after the PCM has had plenty of time to learn the new setup. Then again, you may gain nothing. I definitely wouldn't count on gaining any power.

The only way to learn is to read and ask questions, and that's what this message board is here for! I highly recommend using the search feature. There is a TON of great info to be found in past posts.

Trevor thanks for the reply very much. I thought I would have more replies and assistance. Anyway, your input was very good and appreciated. I really enjoy these fast cars and I am continously trying to my car faster. Most of the things I have done have come from this board. Hi Kent,

I am also relatively new to this forum in the last couple of months. Don't worry about the number of replies. It's possible that folks saw Trevor's reply and believed that he gave you the information that you asked for.

I also want to jump on Trevor's coat-tails when he said that you shouldn't be concerned about asking questions. IMO he is precisely correct when he says that that is what this forum is all about - WE ARE ALL ATTEMPTING TO LEARN HERE whether you are just logging in for the first time or an experienced driver who is the administrator for a list.

Perhaps the following may be helpful when thinking about asking for help: the only dumb question is the one that DIDN'T GET ASKED!

Hope this helps,

gary
