Default Speed Inc. Heads/Cam Dyno Results!

RGR Performance is a local shop that came HIGHLY recommended by Tom Izzo himself. He ensured me that they were of the best quality and they come at a GREAT price. I had the heads milled as well to raise compression to 11:1. LS1Edit tuning was taken care of by Brian at BV Performance who was also HIGHLY recommended.

Here's the dyno chart. Let me know what you think.
http://community.webshots.com/photo/...32462051hnOiib

SAE: 402.9rwhp 390.8rwtq!!!!!

This was done thru FLP Longtubes without cats into SLP 'Loudmouth' Exhaust and an UNLOCKED TP4400 converter. The MAF is a stock descreened unit, stock unported TB, no ASP pulley, no short-belt, etc.
Only mods done (aside from the Heads/Cam) is the exhaust, converter and lid/filter.

Now, since my car is a 2001 and '01 LS1Edit isn't out yet, Tom had to have my computer taken to a dealership and flashed to read as a '00. This only cost me an extra $65.
Brian took over after Tom and Larry completed the install. He dyno tuned the car at Speed Inc. Everything went very smoothly...Brian was been very helpful and has even offered to come along to the track to help "fine tune" the car! I am VERYimpressed with everything Brian@BV Performance has done as well!

Overall, I'm VERY impressed with both Tom & Larry @ Speed Inc. and Brian @ BV Performance!!! Anyone looking for a heads/cam setup, don't hesitate to check them out! I'm very impressed and VERY VERY happy!

Damn man. Can't wait till I get headers! Car feels like a completely different animal doesn't it? Pretty ballsy revving it to 7000

He's having the shift points adjusted.
I don't think it's a good idea to shift that high either.

We hit the limiter a couple 5 or 6 times at 7200....

Sounds really really really bad....but the car eventually learned itself...

Bos, we also figured that when hewent WOT, the car wouldn't spin at first.
But as soon as the RPMs reached about 5500 the Nittos would just break loose and the car would spin. You couldn't hear the tires over the REALLY loud exhaust, but you could feel the *** start to move around! Even at 45+MPH That's also why it was hitting the rev limiter. Now to get that damn trans. in there! The car moves good.

Nice numbers!
Hey, how come on the dyno sheet... hp and tq cross at 5800 instead of 5250?

What was the total cost?

John, BlackWS6 and I were also wondering the same thing. I'd have to ask Tom that one.

The heads were $1699.99
Cam was $379.99
I believe the total was something like $3450 (Installed) with fluids/gaskets + Programming

There are two different scales, one on the right and one on the left.

He's talking about RPM which is at the bottom.
Also, they are 3.23s

Eh? That makes no difference. They SHOULD cross at 5250 rpm. EVERYTIME.
For example:

or

I can supply an endless number of sample dyno sheets showing the FACT... that the two lines MUST converge at 5250. It is all part of the HP/TQ formula.

One more question...Why did they start the dyno run at almost 5000 rpms?

That is a wierd dyno sheet. Good numbers, but something is screwy.

The lines HAVE to cross at 5250.

Things that make you go , Hmmmmmm.

Sorry if I wasn't clear before. I understand the relationship between HP and torque. The thing is, the two axis are scaled differently. They are really two different charts. The crossing point is invalid. You can't look at it as one single chart with two plots. If you were to draw out the two charts using the same scaling, they'd probably cross at 5252 RPM. (Or at least you'd hope!).

The margins on the y axis are also pretty small, makes it so you can't even see a curve.

Looks like Joe finally came out of the street racing closet.

Glad you understand. For a second there I thought I made an *** out of myself.

Raughammer:

Actually, they should cross at 5252, not 5250.

The graph is correct.

Look at the torque being made at 5200rpm and look at the hp being made at 5200, they are the same.

The hp is scale is on the left side and the torque scale is on the right. The dyno sheet could be less confusing along with testing the engine with the converter locked through a wider range of rpm.

Raughammer: The graphs do not have to cross ever or at any specific rpm. The *numerical* values for torque and hp should be identical at 5252.

If you notice there are two different Y-axis scales - one for HP, and one for torque. If you look at the numerical values at 5252 rpm then both are the same. We could scale it so they never intersect at all - what we scale by is irrelevant, only the actual values themselves matter.

Re: the numbers themselves - the HP value is very good through a unlocked torque converter! The torque number itself is not really an accurate number though - since the converter was unlocked you have a large torque spike - and so you do not get really an accurate torque reading - you need to have numbers through a locked converter if you want an accurate torque reading. (one that more closely reflects the engine torque curve and not the driveline.)

Good results though, congrats!

Chris
