well i read the tsb on the piston rings and i realized that my car is consuming oil as well so i went to my dealer where i bought the car and told them, they said they have to do an oil consumption test on my car. i left it for an hour and came back and they sit me in an office and a very rude manager told me that they would no longer do any warranty service on my vehicle or the oil consumption test due to the fact that my car is modified. heres the exact quote of what he wrote in my paper work "cust states vehicle using about 3 qts every 3000 miles visual inspection of vehicle shows mass air flow sensor on backwards. factory exhaust has been altered- dump valve installed, rear tires have been replaced 17000 miles. advised to contact general motors pontiac div." well first of all my rear tires werent replaced the front ones were with the exact same size and rating tire so i dont see how that would have anything to do with the piston rings being bad. and second of all how does a dump valve mean that i have been racing my car??? i mean they have no real idea but the guy told me flat out we know you were racing it and thats what the problem is.... what can i do im currently on hold with a pontiac zone rep. and besides that i dont know what to do. most of the miles on my car are highway miles to and from college it hasnt been abused and the car is hardly ever pushed hard. somebody help!!!

Well you can really get into it if you want but you might have to get a lawyer etc...basically the rules are

They HAVE to prove that the things you modified on the car had something to do with the warranty problems you are having....tell them to F off and I would go after their asses, they are just being Lazy DICKS

see he told me that those things indicate that i abused my car by racing it and that voids the warranty, i told him the cut out was for show, and i dont know what the **** he was talking about the mass air flow sensor but oh well... i got off the phone with the zone rep and they will get back to me in a few days. im thinking i just buy a kit and rebuild the bitch myself and get my cam and heads ported at the same time! anyone know how much a kit to rebuild the motor costs? and what exactly i would need? my old mans a mechanic i know a little bit but not enough so i would have his help! thx in advance!

i would love a stroker but im playing for team broke *** so i dont have much money to play with, im putting myself through college right now and a 400 dollar a month car payment doesnt help either! i dont know if i could afford to rebuild the motor <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">

I dropped a valve once in my TA,and a GM rep. flew in from detriot to see about warranty,cause it had
cold air intake and boral cat back,i told them it is no different than a WS6 basically ,they then gave me a new LT1

Get a SEMA handout.
Yes they can void the warranty for racing.
But they better prove it.
Sema and the law says even if you change the intire cat back and the cats go bad, dealer must replace the cats unless they can PROVE you did something to cause damage.
Stick to your guns,call the service manager, general manager, district manager everyday.
Stick with your story about all show, no go...
and dont give up!

A word from experience.

I had the same problem. One dealer wouldn't do dick except beat around the bush. I actually got them to do the oil consumption test. It failed, 3.25 quarts in 3k miles. Then they wouldn't do anything about it. I argued with them for weeks. (They had rebuilt my motor prior to the oil consumption issue due to a failed oil pump.) So I took the oil consumption receipts and went to a different dealer. I had a new crate engine installed in my car in one week based only on the receipts and my explanation of what had happened. Before I had the new engine installed I removed all my mods just to be safe (headers, etc.). The dealer was really cool, but told me that this was my one freebie.

If you do have the dealer do an oil consumption test be sure you insist to watch them measure the oil that goes in, so they don't cheat. Also, if you want to be sure it will fail, run the crap out it during the test, ie. high rpm, lots of WOT.

Where did you take your car? Superior? I took my car there to see if they could replace my left rear axle under warranty and they said no! because my car was way to modified and that they would void my warranty, so I took it to Park Place
Pontiac and had it replaced there with no problems. They even asked what all was in the car
since it was so loud <img src="graemlins/gr_guns.gif" border="0" alt="[guns]" />

I would go to another dealership!!!!

I don’t even go to the dealership I bought my car from for warranty claims. They have a very good sales department but a horrible service department, that gives people tons of hassles for small mod. I go to a dealer closer to my house now and haven’t had any problems. They even agreed to replaced a bad knock sensor once with drag radials, full exhaust, lid and track #’s on my car. All they asked was weather I had been running race gas in the car.

The moral of the story is you just have to find a dealership that is mod friendly. But it sounds like they might have found a costly problem with you car that they don’t want to invest time and money into. Just my two cents!!

I hope you get them because it's dealers like that that **** me off... They could easily do the work, the Manager, service writer or mechanic either dont like the warranty labor rate, think you won't put up a fight or just don't like modded cars.. FOr crying out loud, how the HELL would a MAF or cutout blow up a motor. WTF? They probably think you're a punk kid and won't do ****. I hope you get them to do your car...If you succeed with chevy, tell chevy/pontiac(forogt what car you have) that you want to use another dealership. That would **** them off....

i learned the hard way, never go to a gm dealer. unless you actually know them! if not take your mods off before you do!not all, but most gm mechanics suck anyway!

Its all about looks (dress decent), confidence, and attitude. You need to make him aware that he is wrong and f'ing with the wrong person.

As others said, he would have to PROVE you wer racing or that your mods directly caused the engine problem or failure.

Secondly, he needs to be made aware that you are a customer who bought a new car from them and more importantly a potential future customer.

Thirdly, you need to make the Service Manager aware of your extreme dissatisfaction and aware that you can bring a whole world of **** onto him that he doesn;t want to deal with. You can not only complain to the Dealer Owners but also complain to GM customer service as well as contact an Attorney to serve him papers to prove why he is voiding the warranty. If he knows that you will not go away and will fight him and make his life hell, then I think he will back down.

Also, remind him that the dealership makes money on warranty work they do on your car but by voiding the warranty you would just take the work and any future business elsewhere - I'm also sure the owners would agree with that !
