Default BIG cams and emissions...

What do you guys do? I am eventually going to do a monster cam, but I have to pass emissions in IL. My car is an everyday driver and I just don't see a way around it!! I live in Cook county. ANY help is appreciated.

I don't know how acurate this is but this is to the best of my knowledge. Either you keep the stock cam and get it installed for emitions testing or you fail. If you fail you have 2 more tries. If you fail all 3 you have to show proof that you invested at least $400 in making it "run right". You can use that for your own advantage, get it dyno tuned, new plugs and wires, whole new ignition while your at it. if it doesn't add up you get a new stock cat back exhaust put on. After failing a third time spend $400 on your car on tune up type things and thats the same as passing. The only problem is you have to do that every time emitions comes around. Like I said I don't know how acurate this is but this is my understanding.

Find a smog tech who will run car on diagnostic test to see where your at, if its failing badly pay someone to substitute a clean car for your testing.

That might not work. Sometimes they check the vin sometimes they don't.

I am talking about finding a inspection station that will agree to put substitute car on for testing, and entering your info. You can manually enter vin info.

Does Illinois emissions testing plug into the computer yet?

They do in Wisconsin and that makes it a little harder to substitute cars. Also if you plan on swapping cams back to the original for testing and then swapping back, the computer must be able to run decently with the stock cam (or you have another pcm that has been flashed for your car).

I have two years to figure it out.

Illinois is going to the plug-in deal for OBDII.

Seems like that's even better for us.

It's four years in IL.

I just got a notice for Dragula.

Methyl Hydrate.

I used to do emissions testing (in Canada) and when we got cars that just would not pass we'd cheat with Methyl Hydrate. It made the cars run like crap but cleared up the NOx, CO and HC like a miracle tonic. Runs super hot though and needs to be mixed 50/50 with pump gas. And I never tried with an LS1 so take this for what it is: passing advise...
