Default Picking up the car tomorrow from ARE :)

I am going to pick up the car tomorrow from Nick with the following changes done.
Nick had some issues with Comp sending the wrong retainers etc and having to wait for a cam but they have everything in now and the car should be at the exhaust shop at noon.

Here are the changes <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Stage 1 5.3L heads with 2.02 and 1.57 valves.
11:1 compression

226/234 112LSA 554/575 lift cam

My existing Mac headers with new custom 3 inch offroad Ypipe

3 inch cutout

ASP crank and Alt pullies

Might run my new custom air intake setup (With large *** conical K&N filter)

I am going to be running stock tuning until Nick gets LS1 edit in there late next week. Needless to say driveability will be affected with that cam in an A4 on stock tuning LOL!

I am going to try this cam for a while and if I am not happy with how it is working we will look at a XE-R based 228/228 112LSA .588/.588 lift cam or a 226/226 114LSA .581/.581 lift cam. I am expecting good things from the 226/234 cam though and it will be easier on the valvetrain than the XE-R based cam.

Other new mods coming include Wolfe cage, new 28x10 inch Hooiser slicks for the stock Firebird rim (Just released by Hoosier) a little weight reduction, and LS1 edit tuning.

Hoping for Low 11's@119mph plus. That will be perfect for a little S1 headed car <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Also having an Ultraflo welded muffler put in to replace my dynomax race magnum bullet muffler. (the bullet was pretty loud LOL)

Anyways, I will post my impressions after picking up the car tomorrow morning <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Cheers,
Chris

i agree. whats the difference between a milled, big (objective i know...lets say not stock) valves, 5.3 heads and a STAGE 2 5.3 head. sound like stage 1.999999 to me. im anxious to see the results though. hey, did you drive on 87 octane on the low comp motor.

Bring a pillow for your jaw for when it hits the floor. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Nope, no dyno yet <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
It is still getting the pushrods in and valve covers etc and then straight to the exhaust shop.
My dyno numbers wont be super impressive anyways compared to some of the big dawgs as my tranny eats a lot of power.
For example I dynoed 408RWHP with the old setup and the M6 with 10 bolt and 3.73s.
When I switched to to the 4L70 tranny and 12 bolt with 4.11's I dynoed ~365 with a spike. Lost over 50RWHP from the swap but went 1 second faster in the 1/4 mile at the same mph as before.

I am going to see how the track numbers are and post all the relevant information on vehicle weight, gearing, DA, and ET/mph and sixty etc.

I'll use the dyno but only as a tuning tool to monitor AF and changes from the baseline.

I'll call the heads stage 1x heads LOL for the up in compression
Nick classifies (as does MTI) Stage 2 as a 2.05, 1.60 valve or bigger.

I always used 93 octane min in the old combo and will do the same with this one <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

Thanks again,
Chris

Looking forward to your track results. <img src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" border="0">

Do you have any tuning from your B1 set-up?

Say Hi to Nick for me <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0"> and let me know if Comp finally delivered my cam. <img src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" border="0"> I'm going bananas waiting for my motor <img src="graemlins/gr_cry.gif" border="0" alt="[whiner]" />

I will be talking to Nick this afternoon and will ask him about your cam <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Bone stock tuning was used with the B1 with HPP for rev limit and fans, speedo etc.

Going to play with T-body drilling and IAC to see if I can get this big cam to idle on stock tuning so I can drive it. I was also very impressed with the results of the 229v2.1 cam that Terry posted.

I wonder how the powerband would look with the XE-R based cam with 228/228 114LSA .588/.588 lift?

Wouldnt have to worry about PV clearance and the lift numbers are pretty sick LOL

With LS1 edit and having the cam on 114LSA we should be able to get it to idle and it should make mad power and peak at 6500rpm if I decided to go that route.

It is an exciting time for LS1 engine development with these new cams and LS1 edit.

Cheers,
Chris
