Default 383 Ls1

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a camaro with a 383 LS1 in it. Its really set up for the street, so I was wondering how many miles you think that the motor could take before it needs a rebuild- just strictly street driving with only a couple passes and not a lot of abuse at all. The motor was completely gone through and built. Also, how much hotter do you think that it will run as compared to stock (with stock water pump)???

Are you sure it's a 383 LS1 not a LT1?
USUALLY LS1 strokers are like 382's.

I was told its a forged 383. This is about all of the info I have on the motor as of now.

CNC ported 5.3 heads hand finished 2.055 intake valves
Comp Double Roller timing chain
Katech ported oil pump
Comp hardened push rods
LG Motorsports G5X2 Cam
Eagle 4” crank
Lunati Rods
Mahle pistons 3.903”

Well if that's it, sounds like a nice set-up.

An LS1 will be a 382 if it is only a stroker 4" crank (with stock 3.898 bore). If they bored or honed it out to 3.903 or 3.905, it will be a 383 with a 4" stroke crank. Longevity will depend on how well it was built. I'd find out who built it, and check their reputation if at all possible.

Wait wait so you can make an ls1 a 382 without boring it over just by poping the oilpan out and swaping crankshafts? Im kind of a newb but if thats all it takes im game for that.

No, you can't lol...! You can build an engine without overboring it, but if you're replacing the crank with a longer stroke, you HAVE to change pistons (dif compression height), or go with a shorter rod to compensate for the longer stroke. Besides that, any time you change a component in the rotating assembly, you'll need to re-balance it.

So what do you guys think? Any thoughts or comments on a 383 LS1? Things to look for? Are they good motors?-- considering the parts I listed a few posts up
