My motor is almost completely apart
All that's left is the main caps, and it's time to figure that trick out.
For those who've build their own motors, what did you use to pull the mains??
Go buy the puller tool and use your own slide hammer?
beg, borrow, steal one from a dealer
make one?
I know what i need, and i know how it works. Just wondering what people did to get one

A bottle jack! j/k
I have all the dealership tools at my disposal, but I feel the slide hammer way is too involved. I take all the bolts loose and reinstall 2 bolts into the cap only and wiggle the cap front to back to loosen the cap out. Its kinda hard on the #3 thrust bearing cap, but it can be done.

That reminds me
All the caps are marked, correct??
Shouldn't them be 1 to 5 in order??
I've got 1-2-2-4-5
What happened to number 3??
I'll try the wiggle method, thanks

Main cap puller..... ? tap the cap with a mallet. thats all you need. the two loops on the side is perfect for holding to remove. (make sure and remove side bolts.

Yes this is an actual tool that GM supplies to dealerships in the GenIII engine tool kit. It connects to the main caps and you use a slide hammer to remove the caps. Too much work if you ask me.

I just used a brass hammer. Tap the caps side to side and then wiggle them out. Don't need anything fancy. Brass hammer won't do any damage.
