ls1fun, the bent input shaft was a result of when my stock rearend broke and locked up at 90 mph at the track. In fact, we didn't even know it was warped until we pulled the tranny out and I was kicking the shaft over and noticed it wobble. I guess it wasn't bad enough to cause any vibrations or anything.

FST01m6, I hope to be shifting the new motor at less than 6800 while it still has a hydraulic cam in it. Once I go solid roller, I expect 7500 rpm shifts. I currently run a Cartek clutch and it seems to be be working very well. I typically cut 1.58-1.60 60' times with it with both front wheels in the air about 4-6", so no complaints

Tony, what are you going to do for wheels/tires/gears? I have some used 4.30s I'll sell you cheap.

Jason, you forget I live at "Home of the HOOK" and don't need big tires. There are cars running 8s on smaller slicks than I run here. Some cars are running low 9s on ET Streets!

My Hoosier slicks are 26.4" tall, 10" wide. I don't expect 1.3X 60' times in a full weight car, but I would like it to get around 1.50 average. I have 4 HAL shocks on the way, and also the LG torque arm and LCAs that I didn't have when I ran last time. Those should all help.

You guys are too obsessed with BIG tires! I'll just have to see how this setup works first.

Eric, I don't know the specs on the sleeves, all I know is that a shop is custom making them for MTI. There will be a 4.150" bore motor built before mine, and both of ours will serve as test mules. I'm always testing out new stuff

Less gear, less tire.

Less converter, less tire needed.

My stall is only like a 3600-4000, I can just barely hook it on a 26" tire right now.

Anyway, Tony let us know how it runs on pump gas, and how much timing you have in it.

Your friend,

How is the 4.15 bore holding up?

I heard that 4.08 is about the biggest you want to go on a real street driven motor, but you mention thicker sleeves, what is your thickness in comparison to a 4.06/4.08/4.10 bore?

Tony what cam did you use when rockers failed?
Also was there any missed shifts or accidental down shifts that may have contributed to this rocker problem? TIA

Ls1derfull, my motor was completely stock when the rocker arm failed. It just happens sometimes, the bearing cap falls off and spills all of the little rod-shaped bearings out. No harm done, just need a magnet pen to gather them off the head. The rest come out the oil plug.

Also, you BIG tire and gear guys, you don't need that stuff as much when you have BIG cubes . FYI, I could cut 1.58-1.62 60' times all day long by leaving at 4000 rpm and flooring it with my 382ci motor. This is with 4.10s and 26" tires. I'd hold it about 4000 and dump the clutch and floor the gas at the same time, wheels would come up about 3-4" and run very consistently. Anything over 5K dumps resulted in some violent looking launches but usually the same 60' times haha.

Tony
