Timing chain swap
Do you have to replace the timing chain whith a h/c swap. If so is the slp chain any good. Also what lenght pushrods to use with GTP S2 heads and Thunder 224 cam.

Re: Timing chain swap
No, you don't have to replace the timing chain with a H/C swap. If you car is around 50k though, it might be a good idea, being you'll have that part of the car off anyways.
Be careful when buying timing chains. Most speed shops out there are just selling you a GM timing chain. A stock chain is fine, just don't pay the extra cash for it.
I am in the middle of replacing my timing chain. I went with a Cloyes make.
As for determining your pushrod length that would be a good question for either TR or GTP.

Re: Timing chain swap
what if your car isn't modded...my car has exhaust and that's about it! The owners manual doesn't say anything about replacing the timing chain...so I assume it doesn't need to be changed if the car is pretty much stock?

Re: Timing chain swap
If you order a Cloyes timing chain setup from somewhere like Katech, it comes with a stock chain and both cam and crank gears.
Be aware that to change the chain, you have to pull the oil pump as well. Which means dropping the oil pan by about a half inch, and the fun that entails. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
I bought the Katech Jwis/Kettin IRL chain, and the Cloyes gearset. Were I to do it over again, I would probably go with the SLP double roller setup (which just looks like the Rollmaster setup from Australia). The Katech IRL chain is only *slightly*, and I mean *slightly*, thicker than the stock chain.
I had ~46k miles on my car when I put the cam in, so I decided to do the timing chain and ARE modded LS6 oil pump while I was there. Should you do this, you will need some (crank-bolt sized) threaded rod, nut, washer, and a piece of pipe so that you can push the crank timing gear on. About $15 worth of nut/threaded rod/washer from my local nuts&bolts store made the job a *snap*.
