Default Bad Head Gasket, have some ??s

I just took my heads off (MMS Stage 2X) to get new springs put on. While re-installing I was very careful to make sure I torqued the heads bolt down right and as close as I could and that the block was clean. Anyway the car is finished and everything seems to be fine except for the coolant line on the front passenger side (LS6 intake). It seems to seep some anti-freeze. I replaced the gasket when I did the install. I noticed that when I reved the car that is when it starts seeping. Not bad but just a tiny little bit. I torqued the bolt down as far as it would go, same problem. Now I am worried, people have told me that if the head gasket didn't seal, then it will pressurize the cooling system. Of course that is a thought in my
head, but wanted some further advise. There is no smoke or anything and the car appears to run fine. Has anyone seen this before ? Are there any
other ways of me telling if the head gasket has sealed properly or is it just a matter of a bad coolant pipe gasket ? Any help would be greatly
appreaciated.

Thanks

John

I'd put money on it being a bad coolant pipe gasket. I have seen this before. Did you replace them after you pulled them off? If so, make sure you installed them the correct way onto the coolant pipe.

Jason,

Yes I replaced them. I didn't realize there was a right way to install them. Obviously the gasket side goes around the dowel and the open side to the bolt, but is there an up and down. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

which head gasket did you use?
the new 2002 style or the older style?

the new style has the single part # and is usable on either side of the motor.

the old style uses two differant part numbers and is
"side" specific.

did they get installed right side up?

try another tube and gasket first before you do any tear down but i suspect the gasket is installed wrong or the gasket is on the wrong side of motor.

The head gasket only goes on one way. The side with the writing facing up and the letters front to the front of the motor. Don't be confused by the previous post, Jason and I were refering to the coolant pipe gasket.

If you were pressurising the coolant system I think it would blow coolant out the vent on the overflow before it comprimised a gasket like that. It only needs 15 psi to backflow into the overflow can through the radiator cap. One way you could tell...disconnect the line at the radiator cap and run the engine to operating temp, rev it up to where the coolant passage is seeping...if there is a massive spray out that overflow line each and every time you rev...you may have some pressurising of the coolant system. My vote goes to the coolant pipe gasket.

Thanks for the info. Please keep the info coming. Of course none of us want to pull our heads off again and spend $200 on bolts and gaskets. So please if you have any ideas and suggestion please let me know.

Thanks

my experience with blown head gasket has been it runs HOT as soon as you get on it! Also i have seen bubbles...BIG bubbles coming up thru the coolant...that air has to go somewhere...otherwise coolant goes out the tailpipe

I ordered a new coolant pipe and gasket(s). They should be here Thursday, I am praying that is the problem. We will see. I will post the outcome.
