Dipstick popping out a little
After I make some hard runs in my car the dipstick sometimes pops out about a half inch. Could it have anything to do with having a high volume ARE oil pump or do I most likely have some blowby issues? The car doesn't smoke FWIW..in any event i guess i should really do a leakdown test

I hate to say this but that ain't good. First check your PCV valve to see if it's clogged. Then go get a leakdown test done. The same thing happened to me at Westhampton in Sept 2001. I made 2 passes and it happened both times. I took it in to Cartek and failed the leakdown test seriously. I noticed the same thing about not blowing any smoke or burning oil. That's because it's the compression ring that is being effected. Anyway, it's beacuse of this my car is going to Cartek on April 6th for a new bottom end.

Doing a leak down test is going to show nothing. A leak down is the sealing ability of the rings. There are several signs of ring failure, some more severe than others. They include: smoking-severe failure, loss of power, a mysterious miss that never clears up. These are just 3. The dipstick popping out is excessive crankcase pressure. The way to stop that and pick up some ET at the track is to install a header evac system. Or, in the case of racing engines, they install Air pumps that litterally create vacuum in the crankcase in place of positive pressure. Now I'd like to introduce myself. With a 100% stock block, I can easily see low 11's high 10's. That's induction, cam, rockers, and other bolt ons, no shortblock work. I'll be answering other questions and popping up here and there. My ideas are leading edge. I used to work with Bob and Bill Glidden and Pro Stock stuff. Trust me, just because something sounds different, does not make it wrong. Mine pops a half inch too so I just leave it that way <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Car is running excellent, I just assume the PCV isn't able to cope some times. No biggie. If you have no other symptoms I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I have the same problem dipstick pops out half inch after a pass or noraml driving I just put a tie-rap on there , should I get It checked out?

check the dipstick to see how full you are if you are too full that is not good and can cause blow by. Probably not the problam but it is a shot

I tried a crankcase vacuum pump....the pump is more of a bandaid on these motors as it seems our rings are crap, or at least more crap than other motors from the factory. While it'd pull 10" of vacuum at idle, by the time I hit 6800rpms I was at 2psi of boost in the crankcase.
Granted, I was using an electric pump off a caddy (same one all the LT1 guys use), but the fact is that the LS1 was having much more blowby than other motors that have successfully used this pump. A header vacuum system may work better, but on a street car with cats, how much vacuum is there really going to be? So whats that leave us with, 2 electric pumps or a belt driven pump? Belt routing for a new accessory isn't generally all that fun or cheap, but I guess its an option.
Then there's always the problem of figuring out how to suck the oil out of hte crankcase without sucking up all the oil. While the LS1 valve covers are baffled, I found that even still my catch can would get filled after long drives where the oil got especially hot. The LS6 style PCV system may be the answer to that, as long as the owner is ok with some minor block clearancing.
LS1 people have tried some of your oldschool "tricks", don't discount us too quickly and assume we haven't. I'm new to all this and have only been listening to people who knew what they were talking about (much saying exactly what you were saying).....and I've found that most of the ideas aren't panning out in practice as they do in theory on this motor. Perhaps slight re-engineering on the old idea is in order for this new motor? I dunno. I'll leave that up to the experts. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
