Default Camshaft

Hi,
Can anyone help me in camshaft selection?
I've been in comp cams web site, cranecams they seem to be the go but still not clear to me. I want to make 400 to 450hp with out sacrificing driveablity and if possible to keep factory computer happy without doing mods to it.
Any help would be appriciated

what mods do you have, what are you willing to do? are you looking for flywheel or rear wheel HP? What is youre idea of driveability? are you willing to change rear gears to help driveability? what do your cars come with stock?

The more info we get around here the better we can help.

Headers will be a MUST if you plan on 400 RWHP... Heads too if you plan on anyhting above that.

If you want flywheel HP, 400-450 is easy

Basically from factory it has 255kw 4 into 1 headers dual 2 1/4 exhaust. the diff is 3.73 and has a T56 6 speed. I havn't done any mods to it, I want to port cylinder heads and fit a good cam and valve train components. I want to make 400rwh whilst keeping factory computer as is. The only other thing I can say it runs 10.7:1 afr which is dam rich and killing power

Oh man, you make some hard rules.
400 hp and stock drivability with out touching the computer? Ouch.

OK here goes.. Hammer cam but with the XE-R lobes cam on a 114, MTI heads Stage 2 heads.

You might have to fiddle with the TB to get it close to perfect.

But those steep lobes really smooth out the idle.
There will be some slight low end power loss, but 400 RWHP should be easily attained. With a minimum of drivability loss. It would erally help you if you had a HPP3 to raise your revlimiter to 6600.

That cams specs would be:
222/222 .581/.581 lobe number 3721
Choose it on a 114 l/s. Have it gound with 4 degrees of advance.

Thats my recommendation.
My web site may help you out with some basic cam knowledge and how it applies to LS1's.
There are also charts there to see what cams you can pick from in the Comp Cam line.

Good luck!

Thanks for that,
This is a new toy for me so you think that I can keep the stock computer without touching it?
How do I get a hold of the rev limiter HPP3 and how much??
What do you think of a compcam?
With heads hand port or CNC port, which way do think is best?

Its a programmer that lets you raise your rev limiter and change your rear gear ratio if you had a rear gear change..
